Richard Duval
Christian Harold Richard Duval (born 15 June 1968) is a politician and former Private Parliamentary Secretary (PPS) of Mauritius. He is more commonly known as Richard Duval. Early life, education & career Richard Duval grew up with his mother Jacqueline Dalais in the southern part of Mauritius. He was later adopted by politician Sir Gaëtan Duval. Following his secondary education at St. Joseph's College in Curepipe he travelled to France where he learned how to train horses under Robert Collet's guidance. Given his familiarity with the Mauritius Turf Club he opened a new stable called ''Écurie Richard Duval'' in July 1994 soon after his return to Mauritius. However the stable closed down within a few years. Constituencies Of Mauritius
Constituencies of Mauritius are the electoral boundaries within the Republic of Mauritius. They are also commonly referred to as ''Circonscriptions'' amongst the locals. The country follows the Westminster system and elects 60 members of parliament for a term of 5 years. There are in all 21 Constituencies in the republic, each of them returning 3 members with the exception of Constituency No 21, which returns only 2 members. The Constitution stipulates that there shall be 20 constituencies and one created specially for the Rodrigues island. Those electoral boundaries are considered to be the main pillars for elections as they allow members of parliament to be elected and thus to form the government. Prithvirajsing Roopun () GCSK (born 24 May 1959), also known as Pradeep Singh Roopun, is a Mauritian politician serving as the seventh president of Mauritius since 2019. Early life, education, career and family life Prithvirajsing Roopun was born in an Indian Arya Samaji Hindu family and grew up in Morcellement St. Jean, a suburb of Quatre Bornes. He attended secondary school at New Eton College in Rose Hill and worked as a mathematics teacher at Eden College. He has been qualified and admitted to practice as an attorney at law since 1986. Roopun is a holder of a master's degree in international business law (LLM) from the University of Central Lancashire. Pravind Kumar Jugnauth (born 25 December 1961) is a Mauritian politician serving as the prime minister of Mauritius since January 2017. Sir Anerood Jugnauth, GCSK, PV, (29 March 1930 – 3 June 2021) was a Mauritian politician and barrister who served both as President and Prime Minister of Mauritius. He was Member of Parliament for Piton & Riviere Du Rempart. A central figure of Mauritian politics in the 1980s and 1990s, he was Leader of the Opposition from 1976 to 1982. He served as Prime Minister from 1982 to 1995 and again from 2000 to 2003. He was then elected as President of Mauritius and served as such from 2003 to 2012. Navinchandra Ramgoolam, GCSK, FRCP (born 14 July 1947) is a Mauritian politician who was former Prime Minister of Mauritius from 2005 to 2014 and leader of the Labour Party (Mauritius). He was Leader of the Opposition from 1991 to 1995. He served as Prime Minister for the first time from December 1995 until September 2000, and became Leader of the Opposition again from October 2000 to 4 July 2005. The Mauritian Social Democratic Party (PMSD, ), also known as the Mauritian Conservative Party, is a political party in Mauritius. It is conservative and Francophilic. It is the fourth biggest political party in the National Assembly and forms part of Opposition. History Jules Koenig is regarded as the founder of the party which was known as Union Mauricienne from 1946 to 1956 before being re-branded to Ralliement Mauricien prior to the 1953 Legislative Council Elections. Sir Charles Gaëtan Duval QC (9 October 1930 – 5 May 1996) was a barrister, statesman and politician from Mauritius who was the leader of the Parti Mauricien Social Démocrate (PMSD). Early life and education Duval was born in Rose Hill on 9 October 1930. He was born in an upper middle-class Creole family of mixed ancestry. His father Charles was a civil servant and his mother Rosina Henrisson (1902-1989) was a housewife. In 1933 when Gaëtan was only 3 years old his father died and thus his uncle Raoul raised him. The young Duval attended Saint-Enfant-Jésus RCA primary school and the Royal College of Curepipe. He then travelled abroad to study law at Lincoln's Inn (UK) and at the Faculty of Law of (Paris). The National Assembly (french: Assemblée nationale) is Mauritius's unicameral legislature, which was called the Legislative Assembly until 1992, when the country became a republic.
