Richard E. Davis (1926 – October 6, 2015) founded KC Masterpiece barbecue sauce. Davis began his career as a child psychiatrist, instructor and author. His academic posts included appointments as professor and acting chairman of the department of psychiatry at Eastern Virginia Medical School, and later, as dean of the school of medicine at the University of North Dakota. He was the creator of K.C. Masterpiece Barbecue Sauce. In 1986, he sold the sauce to the Kingsford division of Clorox Inc. Early life and education Davis, born in Joplin, Missouri, graduated from Topeka High School in 1944, and served a year and a half in the army. Richard Dean Davis (born November 24, 1958) is an American former soccer midfielder, and former captain of the U.S. National Team for much of the 1980s. He is considered by fans the best U.S.-born player of the North American Soccer League era and is a member of the National Soccer Hall of Fame. Richard Allen Davis (born June 2, 1954) is an American convicted murderer whose criminal record fueled support for the passage of California's "three-strikes law" for repeat offenders and the involuntary civil commitment act for sex offenders and predators. He was convicted in 1996 of first-degree murder with special circumstances (burglary, robbery, kidnapping, and an attempted lewd act upon a child under the age of 14) of a 12-year-old Polly Klaas. Davis abducted Polly on October 1, 1993, from her home in Petaluma, California and murdered her a few hours later; he led investigators to her mummified and skeletonized remains on December 4 of the same year, the day before searches for her body were to recommence. Richard Gary Davis was awarded the Soldier's Medal, the Army's highest honor for heroism not involving actual conflict with an enemy, for an action in the Republic of Vietnam on 14 May 1967. While serving as a helicopter door gunner, he was helping load and arm sixty Mk.IV aerial flares into a helicopter at a fueling station at Chu Lai, Vietnam. Noticing that one of the flares had fused, he retrieved it and ran with it across a taxiway and threw it into a safe area. Had it ignited in the helicopter the flare would have ignited the other flares and subsequently the thousands of gallons of fuel at the fuel farm. After serving in the Army, Davis had a long career as a pilot, flight instructor and pilot evaluator, eventually retiring from Avianca Airlines in Colombia as an instructor/check airman on the Fokker 100 aircraft. Richard John Davis, OBE, FRAS (28 June 1949 – 2 May 2016) was a radio astronomer for the Jodrell Bank Centre for Astrophysics at the University of Manchester. Personal life Davis was born in March, Cambridgeshire, England, the first child of Hugh Davis, a railway man, and Thelma Carter. He had a brother, architect Christopher Davis, and Richard had two sons, William and Anthony. After falling ill in Italy, he died on 2 May 2016, aged 66, at the Royal Hallamshire Hospital. He was survived by his mother. His funeral took place at St Paul's Church, Macclesfield, on 25 May 2016. Education Davis attended March Grammar School for boys in 1960–67.
