Richard Cleaver
Richard Cleaver (16 August 1917 – 25 October 2006) was an Australian politician. Born in Perth, Western Australia, he was educated at Perth Modern School before becoming a chartered secretary and accountant, and then a management consultant. He served in the military 1941–1946. In 1955, he was elected to the Australian House of Representatives as the Liberal member for Swan, and held the seat until his defeat in 1969. Division Of Swan
The Division of Swan is an Australian electoral division located in Western Australia. Swan is a marginal electorate that has swung between both major political parties in the past two decades. It extends across the Swan River from central Perth, and covers most of the area between the Swan and Canning Rivers. Swan includes the suburbs of South Perth, Como, Victoria Park, Rivervale, Belmont, High Wycombe, Maida Vale, Forrestfield and Wattle Grove. Swan includes a mix of incomes and housing types, from low-price flats to affluent suburbs with Swan River views. The electorate includes the campus of Curtin University, the Welshpool and Kewdale industrial areas, and Perth Airport. Swan covers 151 sq. kilometers. The House of Representatives is the lower house of the bicameral Parliament of Australia, the upper house being the Senate. Its composition and powers are established in Chapter I of the Constitution of Australia. The term of members of the House of Representatives is a maximum of three years from the date of the first sitting of the House, but on only one occasion since Federation has the maximum term been reached. The House is almost always dissolved earlier, usually alone but sometimes in a double dissolution of both Houses. Harry Webb (politician)
Charles Harry Webb (2 February 1908 – 15 November 2000) was an Australian politician. Born in England, he migrated to Australia in 1913 and was educated at state schools, after which he became a locomotive engineman. He rose to become Secretary of the Western Australian branch of the Australian Federated Union of Locomotive Enginemen, and was a member of the executive of the Australian Council of Trade Unions. He was also president of the Western Australian Trades Union Industrial Council, and served as president of the Australian Labor Party (Western Australian Branch), Western Australian Branch of the Australian Labor Party from 1946 to 1955. In 1954, he was elected to the Australian House of Representatives as the Labor member for Division of Swan, Swan, and transferred to the new seat of Division of Stirling, Stirling in 1955.
