The Hon. Richard Cartwright (February 2, 1759 – July 27, 1815) was a businessman, judge and political figure in Upper Canada. Early life Richard Cartwright was born at Albany, New York in 1759. His father, Richard Cartwright, had immigrated there from England in 1742. His mother, Joanne Beasley, was from a 'loyal Dutch family', and his father, an innkeeper and small landowner, soon became a pillar of the local community and was able to educate Richard privately. Family loyalty questioned During the American Revolution his father tried to remain as neutral as possible in the now rebel-occupied Albany, but a letter from Richard was intercepted by the authorities in 1777; this showed his loyalty was not with the American Patriots. Richard John Cartwright
Sir Richard John Cartwright (December 4, 1835 – September 24, 1912) was a Canadian businessman and politician. Cartwright was one of Canada's most distinguished federal politicians during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. He was a cabinet minister in five Liberal governments. He served in the Canadian Parliament for 43 years and 5 months, being an MP from 1867 to 1904 then a Senator until his death in 1912. Prior to Confederation, he had served 4 years, 1 month and 15 days in the Legislative Assembly of the old Province of Canada. Thus, he was a legislator for more than 47 and a half years. He was a vigorous and trenchant orator, and was known as 'the Rupert of debate'. Richard Cartwright (bishop)
Richard Fox Cartwright (10 November 191310 April 2009) was the Anglican Bishop of Plymouth from 1972 to 1982. Cartwright was born son of George Frederick Cartwright (1874–1938), M.A., vicar of Plumstead from 1928 to 1938, Organising Secretary of the White Cross League from 1910 to 1915; he was educated at The King's School, Canterbury and Pembroke College, Cambridge. After he was deaconed (during Advent 1936 ) and priested (the following Advent ) — both times by Richard Parsons, Bishop of Southwark, at Southwark Cathedral, he was a curate at St Anselm's Kennington Cross and then priest in charge of Lower Kingswood. He was then Vicar of Surbiton, Redcliffe, Bristol and Silverton, Devon before being ordained to the episcopate. Richard Lee Cartwright (1925–2010) was an American philosopher of language and emeritus professor of philosophy at MIT. Education and career Cartwright took his B.A. from Oberlin College in 1945, and his Ph.D. from Brown University in 1954 under Curt John Ducasse and Roderick Chisholm.John R.
