Dick Campbell, born Cornelius Coleridge Campbell (June 27, 1903 – December 20, 1994), was a key figure in black theater during the Harlem Renaissance. While a successful performer in his own right, Campbell is best known as a tireless advocate for black actors in general. As a theater producer and director, he helped launch the careers of several black theater artists, including Ossie Davis, Frederick O'Neal, Loften Mitchell, Helen Martin, and Abram Hill. He was a co-founder of the Negro People's Theatre in 1935 and the Rose McLendon Players in 1937, which soon produced only plays written by African Americans. That year he co-founded the Negro Actors Guild as well. His advocacy of the hiring of more blacks in TV included a boycott in 1955. From 1956 to 1964 he represented the State Department in Africa in its International Cultural Exchange Program. Richard S. Campbell (January 25, 1944 – April 25, 2002), was a US folk rock singer-songwriter and film producer. He is best known for his 1966 album ''Dick Campbell Sings Where It's At'', rated as "the sole masterpiece of the fake-Dylan field" Early career Born in Boston Massachusetts and raised in Monroe, Wisconsin, Campbell was a relatively obscure singer-songwriter, who had released a couple of singles and composed for others including Artie Sullivan and all 34 tracks on Ken Nordine's album ''Colors''. In 1965 he sent "a couple of ''Dylan-esque'' songs" to Mercury Records. Richard J. Campbell (born December 7, 1958) is an American musician best known for his work as a bass guitarist and vocalist for Natalie Cole in the 1980s, and more recently with Three Dog Night, Dave Mason, and America. Campbell was born in Van Nuys, California, and moved with his family to Paradise, California in 1966, where Campbell began playing piano age 7. Richard Mitchelson Campbell (28 August 1897 – 17 November 1974) was a New Zealand economist, civil servant (holding the position of Chairman of the Public Service Commissioner), and diplomat. Richard Frederick Fotheringham Campbell (September 1831 – 27 May 1888) was a British army officer and Liberal Party politician who sat in the House of Commons from 1880 to 1888. Campbell was the son of James Campbell of Craigie, Ayrshire and his wife Grace Elizabeth Hay, daughter of General Archibald Hay, K.C.B. Richard Vary Campbell FRSE FSA (1840–1901) was a Scottish advocate and author of legal books, who rose to be Sheriff of Roxburgh. He was also a Commissioner of the Northern Lighthouse Board. Life Richard Campbell was born in Glasgow on 4 August 1840, the son of David Campbell, a wine and spirit merchant from a Perthshire family, and Jane Vary, he was educated at Glasgow High School. He then studied Philosophy at Glasgow University (graduating MA in 1861) and began a legal apprenticeship with Robert Lamond before moving to Edinburgh to study Scots Law and Civil Law, graduating LLB. He then studied further at Heidelberg University before being appointed to the Scottish Bar. He became an advocate in 1864.
