Richard Butchins
Richard Butchins is a British filmmaker. He has worked as presenter and director of arts and current affairs documentaries, and as an investigative filmmaker, for television programmes such as BBC One's ''Panorama'', Channel 4's '' Dispatches'' and ITV's ''Exposure''. Having had an arm paralysed by polio as a child, and through also being neuro-diverse Butchins "uses his own experience as a disabled person to make work which addresses disability". His controversial and independently made, ''The Last American Freak Show'' won the 2010 Merit Award at the Superfest International Disability Film Festival and the Best Director Award at the Moscow Breaking Barriers festival. His collaboration with four non-verbal autistic artists in Osaka Japan, ''The Voice of the Unicorn'' won the 2018 Sheffield Doc/Fest Alternate Realities Interactive Award. Panorama (British TV Programme)
''Panorama'' is a British BBC Television current affairs documentary programme. First broadcast in 1953, it is the world's longest-running television news magazine programme. ''Panorama'' has been presented by many well-known BBC presenters, including Richard Dimbleby, Robin Day, David Dimbleby and Jeremy Vine. it broadcasts in peak time on BBC One, without a regular presenter. Exposure (British TV Series)
''Exposure'' is a current affairs strand, broadcast in the United Kingdom on the ITV network. The programme comprises long-form films, investigating and exploring domestic and foreign topics. Episodes are produced both by independent production companies and in-house by ITV Studios. The average budget for a single edition is between £150,000 and £200,000. The series was commissioned by Peter Fincham, ITV's Director of Television, and is a sister show to year-round current affairs strand ''Tonight''. It made its debut on Monday 26 September 2011 – airing at 22.40, directly after ''ITV News at Ten''. Polio
Poliomyelitis, commonly shortened to polio, is an infectious disease caused by the poliovirus. Approximately 70% of cases are asymptomatic; mild symptoms which can occur include sore throat and fever; in a proportion of cases more severe symptoms develop such as headache, neck stiffness, and paresthesia. These symptoms usually pass within one or two weeks. A less common symptom is permanent paralysis, and possible death in extreme cases.. Years after recovery, post-polio syndrome may occur, with a slow development of muscle weakness similar to that which the person had during the initial infection. Superfest International Disability Film Festival is a juried film festival held in the San Francisco Bay Area. Superfest is the longest-running disability film festival in the world. In addition to featuring films developed by and starring people with disabilities, Superfest aims to be inclusive. The directors also coach the film makers about accessibility of films to people with disabilities. During the film festival, the organizers provide sign language interpreters and film narrators to allow for the attendees with various disabilities to appreciate the films. All of the judges for Superfest are people with disabilities from various community roles, including disability community organizers, disability studies scholars, and film aficionados. ''The Tablet'' is a Catholic international weekly review published in London. Brendan Walsh, previously literary editor and then acting editor, was appointed editor in July 2017.
