Richard Bellamy (singer)
Richard Bellamy (1743?–1813) was an English bass singer and composer. One of the chief bass singers of his day, his career included appointments at the Chapel Royal, St. Paul's Cathedral and Westminster Abbey. Career Bellamy was appointed a Gentleman of the Chapel Royal on 28 March 1771 and a lay vicar of Westminster Abbey on 1 January 1773. In 1777 he became a vicar choral of St. Paul's Cathedral, and from 1793 to 1800 he was also almoner and master of the choristers there. Among his pupils at St. Paul's Cathedral was the future organist of Westminster Abbey, George Ebenezer Williams.John S. Bumpus, ''The Organists and Composers of S. The Chapel Royal is an establishment in the Royal Household serving the spiritual needs of the sovereign and the British Royal Family. The Handel festival or "Commemoration" took place in Westminster Abbey between 26 May and 5 June 1784, to commemorate the twenty-fifth anniversary of the death of George Frideric Handel in 1759. The commemoration was organized by John Montagu, 4th Earl of Sandwich and the Concerts of Antient Music and took the form of a series of concerts of Handel's music, given in the Abbey by vast numbers of singers and instrumentalists. A glee is a type of English part song composed during the Late Baroque, Classical, and early Romantic periods, that is to say, the Georgian era. The respectable and artistic character of glees contrasts with the bawdiness of the many catches which continued to be composed and sung well into the early years of the 19th century. Thomas Ludford Bellamy
Thomas Ludford Bellamy (1770–1843) was an English singer, also for a time a theatre manager. Life The son of Richard Bellamy, he was born in St. John's parish, Westminster. He learned singing and music from his father and Benjamin Cooke, and after his voice had broken from Elisa Taccani Tasca. In 1784 Bellamy sang amongst the trebles at the Handel commemoration in Westminster Abbey, and in 1791 at Drury Lane. Irish property had been bequeathed him by his maternal grandfather in 1776, and in 1794 he went to Ireland. In 1797 he was in Dublin, where he acted as stage manager at the theatre; but in 1800 he bought shares in the Manchester, Chester, Shrewsbury, and Lichfield theatres. Three years later he sold his interest in these undertakings, and became sole proprietor of the Belfast, Londonderry, and Newry theatres. John Sale
John Sale (1758 – 11 November 1827) was an English bass singer of church music, and a singer and composer of glees. Life He was born in London in 1758, the son of John Sale (1734–1802). From 1767 to 1775 Sale was a chorister of St George's Chapel, Windsor Castle and of Eton College, and of both was lay vicar from 1777 to 1796.
