Ricci Luyties
Ricci Judson Luyties (born May 14, 1962 in Pacific Palisades, California) is a former American volleyball player. He played on the UCLA men's volleyball team and was also a member of the United States men's national volleyball team who received a gold medal at the 1988 Summer Olympics in Seoul, South Korea. Luyties later became a successful professional beach volleyball player and won 7 domestic titles. He is now the head women's volleyball coach at the University of California, San Diego. High school career Luyties attended Palisades High School from 1976 through 1980. He was the Los Angeles’ Player of the Year. Luyties led his team to the city finals in 1979 and 1980, placing second to Westchester High School. All-America
The All-America designation is an annual honor bestowed upon an amateur sports person from the United States who is considered to be one of the best amateurs in their sport. Individuals receiving this distinction are typically added to an All-America team for their sport. Some sports will have multiple All-America teams and will list the honorees as members of a first team, second team, or third team. As such, All-America teams are composed of outstanding US amateur players. Individuals falling short of qualifying for the honor may receive All-America honorable mention. The designation is typically used at the collegiate level although, beginning in 1957, high school- athletes in football began being honored with All-America status, which then carried-over to other sports like basketball and cross-country running. The Association of Volleyball Professionals (AVP) is the biggest and longest-running professional beach volleyball tour in the United States. Founded in 1983, the AVP is headquartered in Newport Beach, California. Hermosa Beach (''Hermosa'', Spanish for "Beautiful") is a beachfront city in Los Angeles County in the U.S. state of California, United States. Its population was 19,728 at the 2020 U.S. Census. Dave Saunders (volleyball)
David Patrick Saunders (born October 19, 1960, in Seattle, Washington) is a former volleyball player from the United States. He was a member of the American Men's National Team that won the gold medal at the 1984 Summer Olympics. Four years later, when Seoul hosted the 1988 Summer Olympics, he once again won a gold medal. Karch Kiraly
Charles Frederick "Karch" Kiraly () (born November 3, 1960) is an American volleyball player, coach and broadcast announcer. In the 1980s he was a central part of the U.S National Team that won gold medals at the 1984 and 1988 Olympic Games. He went on to win the gold medal again at the 1996 Olympic Games, the first Olympic competition to feature beach volleyball. He is the only player (man or woman) to have won Olympic medals of any color in both the indoor and beach volleyball categories. Edwin W. Pauley Pavilion, commonly known as Pauley Pavilion, is an indoor arena located in the Westwood Village district of Los Angeles, California, on the campus of UCLA. It is home to the UCLA Bruins men's and women's basketball teams. The men's and women's volleyball and women's gymnastics teams also compete here.
