Ricard Opisso
Ricard Opisso (1880–1966) was a Catalan cartoonist, caricaturist, illustrator and painter. Biography Son of Alfred Opisso i Viñas, journalist, historian and critic, and of Antonia Sala I Gil, his sister Regina Opisso, was also a writer. He comes from an illustrious family of artists. His paternal grandfather was Josep Opisso I Roig, journalist and director of the ''Diari de Tarragona'', father of the writers Antonia Opisso i Viña and Antoni Opisso i Viña. His maternal great-grandfather was the painter Pere Pau Montaña, his maternal grandfather the fabulist Felipe Jacinto Sala and his maternal uncle, the painter Emilio Sala i Francés. His nephew was Arturo Llorens i Opisso, a writer best known under his pseudonym Arturo Llopis. Although he was born in Tarragona, his family moved to Barcelona when Opisso was only two years old. L'Esquella De La Torratxa
''L'Esquella de la Torratxa'' was an illustrated satirical weekly magazine, written in Catalan. Published in Barcelona between 1872 and 1939, it was well known for its pro-republican and anti-clerical stance and would become one of the most important Catalan publications of all times. History ''L'Esquella de la Torratxa'', meaning "the cowbell of the turret", was first published on 5 May 1872. It began during an officially-decreed suspension of the publication of ''La Campana de Gràcia'', a more overtly political magazine. It would, however, become very critical of Barcelona mayor Francisco Ríos Taulet and his promotion of the 1888 Barcelona Universal Exposition which was seen by many as a wasteful extravagancy. ''¡Cu-cut!'' was a Catalan illustrated satirical magazine, written in Catalan. Published in Barcelona between 1902 and 1912, it followed the political line marked by Francesc Cambó's Lliga Regionalista. History ¡Cu-cut!, named after the cuckoo bird ( ca, Cucut), was first published on 2 January 1902 and, like El Be Negre magazine that would be published later, it steadfastly opposed Lerrouxism in Spain. Its director was Manuel Folch i Torres and most articles were written by Josep Morató i Grau, Eduard Coca i Vallmajor and Manuel Urgellès, among others such as Josep Abril i Virgili and Vicenç Caldés i Arús. ''En Patufet'' was an illustrated children's magazine, written in Catalan, published in Barcelona (Spain), between 1904 and 1938. Later, between 1968 and 1973, it was resumed under the name ''Patufet''. It had a great popularity, to the point that the word ''patufet'' was used generically to refer to the illustrated magazines for children, now called comics. Political Satire
Political satire is satire that specializes in gaining entertainment from politics; it has also been used with subversive intent where Political discourse analysis, political speech and dissent are forbidden by a regime, as a method of advancing political arguments where such arguments are expressly forbidden. Political satire is usually distinguished from political protest or political dissent, as it does not necessarily carry an agenda nor seek to influence the political process. While occasionally it may, it more commonly aims simply to provide entertainment. By its very nature, it rarely offers a constructive view in itself; when it is used as part of protest or dissent, it tends to simply establish the error of matters rather than provide solutions.
