Étienne Pierre Sylvestre Ricard
Étienne Pierre Sylvestre Ricard (31 December 1771 – 6 November 1843) was a prominent French division commander during the 1814 Campaign in Northeast France. In 1791 he joined an infantry regiment and spent several years in Corsica. Transferred to the Army of Italy in 1799, he became an aide-de-camp to Louis-Gabriel Suchet. He fought at Pozzolo in 1800. He became aide-de-camp to Marshal Nicolas Soult in 1805 and was at Austerlitz and Jena where his actions earned a promotion to general of brigade. From 1808 he functioned as Soult's chief of staff during the Peninsular War, serving at Corunna, Braga, First and Second Porto. During this time he sent a letter to Soult's generals asking them if the marshal should assume royal powers in Northern Portugal. When he found out, Napoleon was furious and he sidelined Ricard for two years. In 1811 Soult got Ricard reinstated and he fought at Tarragona. René Ricard
Rene Ricard (July 23, 1946 – February 1, 2014) was an American poet, actor, art critic, and painter. Life and career Albert Napoleon Ricard was born in Boston and grew up in Acushnet, Massachusetts near New Bedford. As a young teenager he ran away to Boston and assimilated into the literary scene of the city. By age eighteen, he had moved to New York City, where he became a protégé of Andy Warhol. He appeared in the Warhol films ''Kitchen'' (1965), ''Chelsea Girls'' (1966), and ''The Andy Warhol Story'' (1966). As a performer, Ricard was a founding participant in the Theater of the Ridiculous collaborating with John Vaccaro and Charles Ludlam. He also appeared in the 1980 Eric Mitchell independent film ''Underground U.S.A.'' (1980), as well as numerous other independent art and commercial films. Ricards Lodge High School is a single-sex comprehensive secondary school for girls aged 11 to 16, located on Lake Road in Wimbledon, London. The school's headteacher has been Alison Jerrard since 2005. It was judged as an Outstanding school by Ofsted in November 2017. History of the site The manor of Wimbledon was presented to the Archbishop of Canterbury by Edward the Confessor in the 12th century. The property remained in the possession of his successors until the reign of Henry VIII when it was re-possessed by the crown. It was sold again by Queen Elizabeth I to Sir Christopher Hatton, and from him in turn to Sir Thomas Cecil. Queen Elizabeth was not interested in the property whilst it was in her possession but was later entertained there on several occasions. Ricard (; ) is a pastis, an anise and licorice-flavored apéritif, created by Marseille native Paul Ricard in 1932, who marketed it as the "true pastis from Marseille". Paul Ricard's justification for the name was "I am willing to put my name on it, because I am sure of the quality of this pastis and proud of its unique taste". Absinthe, an aniseed-based liquor largely produced by the Pernod Fils company, was the established "drink of choice" in France. Théogène Ricard
J. H. Théogène Ricard, (April 30, 1909 – April 7, 2006) was a Canadian politician. An insurance agent by training, Ricard was first elected to the House of Commons of Canada in the 1957 election as the Progressive Conservative Member of Parliament (MP) for Saint-Hyacinthe—Bagot. In 1962, he was appointed Chief Government Whip and parliamentary secretary to the Prime Minister of Canada. Prior to the 1963 general election, he was promoted to the Cabinet of John Diefenbaker as minister without portfolio. Although he kept his seat in the election, the Diefenbaker government was defeated, and Ricard's Cabinet career came to an end after barely a month. Paul Louis Marius Ricard (; July 9, 1909 – November 7, 1997) was a French industrialist and creator of an eponymous pastis brand which merged in 1975 with its competitor Pernod to create Pernod Ricard. Ricard was also an environmentalist and the developer of two Mediterranean islands, as well as the builder of the Circuit Paul Ricard in Le Castellet. Early life Ricard was born in Sainte-Marthe, part of the 14th arrondissement of the city of Marseille, to a family of wine merchants. Matthieu Ricard (; ne, माथ्यु रिका, born 15 February 1946) is a French writer, photographer, translator and Buddhist monk who resides at Shechen Tennyi Dargyeling Monastery in Nepal. Matthieu Ricard grew up among the personalities and ideas of French intellectual circles. He received a PhD degree in molecular genetics from the Pasteur Institute in 1972. He then decided to forsake his scientific career and instead practice Tibetan Buddhism, living mainly in the Himalayas. Ricard is a board member of the Mind and Life Institute. He received the French National Order of Merit for his humanitarian work in the East with Karuna-Shechen, the non-profit organization he co-founded in 2000 with Rabjam Rinpoche.
