Rheinhausen (Breisgau)
Rheinhausen is a town in the district of Emmendingen in Baden-Württemberg in Germany. Geography Rheinhausen is located in the northern Breisgau region on the Rhine river. Along the Rhine, it includes part of the Taubergießen Nature Reserve, one of the largest nature reserves in Baden-Wuerttemberg. Neighboring communities To the west, across the Rhine river in France, is the Rhinau Island Nature Reserve, in the Schœnau commune of the Bas-Rhin department in France's Alsace region. Across the town's southern border is the village of Weisweil, to the east are the towns of Kenzingen and Herbolzheim, and to the north is the town of Rust, in the Ortenau district. Emmendingen (district)
Emmendingen (German: ''Landkreis Emmendingen'') is a ''Landkreis'' (district) in the west of Baden-Württemberg, Germany. Neighbouring districts are (from north clockwise) Ortenaukreis, Schwarzwald-Baar, Breisgau-Hochschwarzwald and the district-free city Freiburg. To the west it borders the French ''département'' Bas-Rhin. History The district dates back to the ''Bezirksamt Emmendingen'', which was created in 1803 when the area became part of Baden. After several additions it was converted into the district Emmendingen in 1936, when it was merged with the ''Amt Waldkirch''. In the communal reform of 1973 the district wasn't changed - at first it was planned to merge it with the district Lahr, but that was merged into the Ortenaukreis instead. The Breisgau () is an area in southwest Germany between the Rhine River and the foothills of the Black Forest. Part of the state of Baden-Württemberg, it centers on the city of Freiburg im Breisgau. Taubergießen Nature Reserve
Taubergießen is a floodplain wetland on the southern Upper Rhine in the natural area Offenburg Rhine plain. Taubergießen was declared Naturschutzgebiet (Nature Reserve) in 1979 and, with 1,697 hectares, is one of the largest protected areas in Baden-Württemberg. It has a north–south extension of more than 12 km. The largest width is about 2.5 km. Name The name ''"Taubergießen"'' derives from ''Taubergießen'', one of the numerous watercourses and branches of the nature reserve, which runs in the north of the area and drains from the right into the lower course of the Elz river, which is closer to the Rhine. Under "pouring" is understood underground, i.e. in direct connection with the groundwater flowing parts of the stream, which come from a sufficient depression of the bottom again to the surface. Rhinau Island Nature Reserve
Rhinau (; ) is a commune in the Bas-Rhin department of Grand Est in north-eastern France. Until 1398, the village was located on the bank of the Rhine. The present village dates from the sixteenth century. At periods of low water in the Rhine, it is possible to see the old foundations of the village, as happened in 1749. After a flood in 1541, an uninhabited 58% of its territory (10 km²) happened to end up on the right bank of the Rhine, in Germany. The German part of Rhinau is a natural reserve, the Taubergießen. A ferry crosses the river, linking the two banks in France and Germany. Geography The village of Rhinau is situated on the Rhine about 30 kilometers sound of Strasbourg. It is a notable city in that it has 997 hectares of territory on the right bank of the Rhine, in Germany. Weisweil, Emmendingen
Weisweil is a municipality in the district of Emmendingen (district), Emmendingen in Baden-Württemberg in Germany. Location Weisweil is located several kilometres north of the Kaiserstuhl (Baden-Württemberg), Kaiserstuhl low mountain range and about 18 kilometres northwest of the local town Emmendingen In the Upper Rhine Valley.
