Reynolds Castle
The James E. Reynolds House, located east of Cameron, Oklahoma, Cameron off Oklahoma State Highway 112, State Highway 112 in Le Flore County, Oklahoma is a castle which was built in 1911. Also known as Reynolds Castle, it was listed on the National Register of Historic Places listings in LeFlore County, Oklahoma in 1977. It is a 10-room stone castle built from stone quarried from a nearby hillside. The castle was the work of James E. Reynolds (1837–1920). Reynolds was a Confederate States of America, Confederate soldier in the American Civil War and successful entrepreneur and was in his words an '"unreconstructed Confederate."' With . Cameron, Oklahoma
Cameron is a town in Le Flore County, Oklahoma, United States. It is part of the Fort Smith, Arkansas-Oklahoma Metropolitan Statistical Area. The population was 302 at the 2010 census, a decline of 3.2 percent from the figure of 312 recorded in 2000. History When the Fort Smith and Southern Railway laid tracks in the area of the present day town of Cameron in 1886–87, there was already a settlement of about 40 people. At the time of its founding, Cameron was located in Skullyville County, a part of the Moshulatubbee District of the Choctaw Nation.Morris, John W. Oklahoma State Highway 112
State Highway 112 is a 24.6 mi (39.6 km) state highway in Le Flore County, Oklahoma. It connects Poteau to Arkoma. It has no lettered spur routes. Route description SH-112 begins at an intersection with US-59/271 in Poteau, continuing the alignment of the Poteau Bypass. It continues northeast from the intersection, intersecting a railroad at-grade and crossing the Poteau River. The highway then clips the west edge of Cameron. Northeast of Cameron, the road crosses over James Fork. In Rock Island, Highway 112 serves as the western terminus of State Highway 120. At SH-120, it turns more northerly and crosses Backbone Mountain. On the far side of the mountain, SH-112 passes through Pocola. On the north side of town, the highway intersects US-271/ SH-9. SH-112 joins the concurrency, headed east. The road becomes a freeway in the run-up to Interstate 540, which begins at the Oklahoma–Arkansas state line. Le Flore County, Oklahoma
LeFlore County is a county along the eastern border of the U.S state of Oklahoma. As of the 2010 census, the population was 50,384. Its county seat is Poteau. The county is part of the Fort Smith metropolitan area and the name honors a Choctaw family named LeFlore. The United States District Court for the Eastern District of Oklahoma is the federal district court with jurisdiction in LeFlore County. History The Choctaw Nation signed the Treaty of Doak's Stand in 1820, ceding part of their ancestral home in the Southeastern U. S. and receiving a large tract in Indian Territory. They signed the Treaty of Dancing Rabbit Creek in 1830, which ceded the remainder of their original homeland. Most of the remainder of the Choctaw were removed to Indian Territory, escorted by federal military troops, in several waves.
