Rey Charol
Rey Charol (1936–1990) was an Uruguayan film and television actor of African descent. Best known for his role as Cirilo Tamayo's father in "Jacinta Pichimahuida" and "Señorita maestra" TV series, he entered Argentina's film industry in 1960 and made some twenty appearances in film between then and 1987. Afro-Argentines are people in Argentina of primarily Sub-Saharan African descent. The Afro-Argentine population is the result of people being brought over during the transatlantic slave trade during the centuries of Spanish domination in the region and immigration from Africa. ''La Madre MarÃa'' is a 1974 Argentine drama film directed by Lucas Demare. Plot La Madre MarÃa is based on the life of MarÃa Salomé Loredo, a renowned Argentina faith healer (1854-1928). The film begins with an old Madre Maria on trial for quackery and deceit. On a series of flashbacks, her life is told, starting with a visit MarÃa paid to another famous Argentina faith healer, Pancho Sierra. Pancho Sierra instructs Madre MarÃa to continue his work by helping the poor and praying with the sick.
