Rex Barnes
Rex Barnes (born June 4, 1959) is a Canadian politician. Born in Grand Falls-Windsor, Newfoundland and Labrador, Barnes was a member of the Progressive Conservative caucus in the House of Commons of Canada, representing the riding of Gander—Grand Falls. Elected in a by-election in 2002, he lost his seat in the 2004 election to Liberal candidate Scott Simms, running as the member for Bonavista—Exploits. Barnes has been a paramedic, and a volunteer worker. Barnes was the Progressive Conservative critic for Public Works and Government Services, and Transport. He served as a city councillor in Grand Falls-Windsor for 9 years. Barnes served as mayor of Grand Falls-Windsor from September 2005 to September 2009. In February 2011, he announced plans to challenge incumbent MHA Ray Hunter for the Progressive Conservative party nomination in Grand Falls-Windsor-Green Bay South for the 2011 provincial election. Gander—Grand Falls
Gander—Grand Falls was a federal electoral district in Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada, that was represented in the House of Commons of Canada from 1988 to 2004. This riding was created in 1987 from parts of Gander—Twillingate and Grand Falls—White Bay—Labrador ridings. It was abolished in 2003 when it was redistributed into Bonavista—Exploits, Humber—St. Barbe—Baie Verte and Random—Burin—St. George's ridings. The 2015 Newfoundland and Labrador general election, held on November 30, 2015, elected members of the 48th General Assembly of Newfoundland and Labrador. The Progressive Conservative Party which had governed since 2003 election, was defeated by the Liberal Party, which won a majority in the new assembly. The election had been scheduled for October 13, 2015, under Newfoundland and Labrador's House of Assembly Act, mandating a fixed election day on the second Tuesday in October in the fourth calendar year after the previous election. However, the House of Assembly amended the act in June 2015, to delay the election until November 30, 2015, so that the election campaign would not overlap with the federal election scheduled on October 19, 2015. Grand Falls-Windsor—Green Bay South, formerly known as Windsor—Springdale, is a defunct provincial electoral district for the House of Assembly of Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada.
