Revolutionary Sama Samaja Party
Revolutionary Workers Party−RWP, initially known as Revolutionary Samasamaja Party is a Trotskyist political party in Sri Lanka. History The party was formed in 1968, as a split from the Lanka Sama Samaja Party (Revolutionary). The founding secretary of the party was Edmund Samarakkoddy. The party adopted its current name in 1973. RSP had denounced the 1971 uprising of the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna as adventuristic. In the latter half of the 1970s, RWP developed contacts with the international Spartacist tendency. The relationship with the Spartacists was broken in 1979, and in 1981 RWP suffered a split when a minority formed the Spartacist Group India/Lanka. After the break with the Spartacists, RWP developed close contacts to an Italian split-off from iSt, the Revolutionary Workers Group (GOR). Trotskyism
Trotskyism is the political ideology and branch of Marxism developed by Ukrainian-Russian revolutionary Leon Trotsky and some other members of the Left Opposition and Fourth International. Trotsky self-identified as an orthodox Marxist, a revolutionary Marxist, and Bolshevik–Leninist, a follower of Marx, Engels, and 3L: Vladimir Lenin, Karl Liebknecht, and Rosa Luxemburg. He supported founding a vanguard party of the proletariat, proletarian internationalism, and a dictatorship of the proletariat (as opposed to the " dictatorship of the bourgeoisie", which Marxists argue defines capitalism) based on working-class self-emancipation and mass democracy. Edmund Samarakkoddy
Edmund Peter Samarakkody (19 April 1912 – 4 January 1992) was a Ceylonese lawyer, trade unionist, politician and Member of Parliament. Early life and family Samarakkody was born on 19 April 1912, the fifth of seven children to Charles Peter Augustus de Fonseka Tillekeratne Samarakkody, Muhandiram of the Governor Gate and planter; and Anne Catharine née Tillekeratne, daughter of Nicholas Tillekeratne, Mudaliyar of Matara. He was educated at S. Thomas' College, Mount Lavinia. After school he joined the Ceylon Law College, qualifying as a proctor. Stephen Samarakkody and Siripala Samarakkody were his brothers, while Panini Ilangakoon and Robert Edward Jayatilaka were his brother-in-laws. Samarakkody married his first cousin Dagmar Samarakkody.
