Revizor (film)
''The Inspector General'' (Czech: ''Revizor'') is a 1933 Czech historical comedy film directed by Martin Frič and starring Vlasta Burian, Jaroslav Marvan and Václav Trégl. It is an adaptation of the 1836 play '' The Inspector General'' by Nikolai Gogol. The director Martin Frič considered it one of his best movies. The film's sets were designed by the art director Štěpán Kopecký. It was shot in studios in Prague. Martin Frič
Martin Frič (29 March 1902 – 26 August 1968) was a Czech film director, screenwriter and actor. He had more than 100 directing credits between 1929 and 1968, including feature films, shorts and documentary films. Throughout his life, Frič struggled with alcoholism. On the day of the Warsaw Pact invasion of Czechoslovakia in 1968, he attempted suicide, after battling cancer. He died in the hospital five days later. Josef Rovenský
Josef Rovenský (17 April 1894 – 5 November 1937) was a Czech-Jewish Siegbert Salomon Prawer, ''Between Two Worlds: The Jewish Presence in German and Austrian Film, 1910-1933'', Berghahn Books (2007), p. 213 film actor and director. He appeared in 74 films between 1914 and 1936. He starred in the 1929 film '' Father Vojtech'', which was the directorial debut of Martin Frič. He died during filming of ''Virginity''. According to Otakar Vávra he died of a cocaine overdose. His last film '' Watchman No. 47'' was then completed by Jan Sviták. ''The Inspector General'' is a 1949 American Technicolor musical comedy film, suggested by the play by Nikolai Gogol. It stars Danny Kaye and was directed by Henry Koster. The film also stars Walter Slezak, Barbara Bates, and Elsa Lanchester. Original music and lyrics are by the associate producer Sylvia Fine, who was married to Danny Kaye, with Johnny Green credited for musical direction and incidental score. Truda Grosslichtová (23 February 1912 – 8 June 1995) was a Czechoslovak film actress. Life Truda Grosslichtová was born Gertruda Marie Grosslichtová in Prague. She spoke Czech, German, French, English and Italian. She acted in amateur theatre, where she was noticed by a producer Josef Auerbach, who cast her both in Czech and German version of his film '' The Affair of Colonel Redl''. She appeared in German and French movies under the name Tania Doll. In 1932 she was voted the most popular actress in Czechoslovakia by Film magazine. Through the 1930s she acted in many Prague theatres. During the war she was forced to work in a factory, because of her partial Jewish origin. In 1945 she married a Dutch soldier Hans de Vries and moved to Amsterdam.
