Reuben W. Coon
Reuben W. Coon (May 31, 1842–February 18, 1908) was an American lawyer, newspaper editor, and politician. Coon was born in Frankfort, Indiana. He went to Shurtleff College and was admitted to the Illinois bar. Coon had lived in Pana, Illinois and eventually settled in Waukegan, Illinois with his wife and family. He owned ''The Waukegan Gazette'' and the ''Belvidere Northwestern'' newspapers. He also served as state's attorney for Boone County, Illinois. Frankfort, Indiana
Frankfort is a city in Clinton County, Indiana, United States. The population was 16,422 at the 2010 census. The city is the county seat of Clinton County. History Brothers John, William and Nicholas Pence, previously of Warren County, Ohio, settled on the land on which Frankfort now stands in 1829, having entered it from the government in 1827 and 1828. In 1830, the brothers donated of the land to the county commissioners, a donation which led to the establishment of the county seat at that site rather than in Jefferson, a community which had also been vying for the honor. The new town was named Frankfort at the brothers' request and honors their German great-grandparents' home of Frankfurt am Main. The town of Frankfort was laid off on the tract by William Douglass, the county agent, and the plat filed on June 8, 1830. Shurtleff College
Shurtleff College was a Baptist liberal arts school in Alton, Illinois until 1957. History Founded in 1827 by Reverend John Mason Peck (a Baptist missionary) as Rock Spring Seminary in St. Clair County, Illinois, and relocated to Alton, Illinois in 1832, first as the Alton Seminary, then as Alton College, the institution was renamed again in 1836 as Shurtleff College, in honor of Dr. Benjamin Shurtleff of Boston who donated $10,000 to the college. In keeping with Baptist ideas about equality, the school came to accept women as well as men, and students of all races.
