Reuben Cooper
Reuben Cooper (born 14 August 1951) is a former Australian rules footballer. He is notable for playing for the South Melbourne in the Victorian Football League (VFL - now AFL). Biography Cooper, an indigenous Australian was born into a footballing family, his father Ron who played football with the Buffaloes in the NTFL. His great grandfather Joseph ("Joe") is said to have owned Melville Island and married a Iwaidja woman and sent Reuben's grandfather, Reuben Cooper Snr to St Peter's College, Adelaide after which he returned to introduced the sport to Darwin in 1915, Reuben Snr was the first "coloured" player to play in the Darwin league and his wife.ABORIGINAL HISTORY 1992 pg 17. Sydney Swans
The Sydney Swans are a professional Australian rules football club based in Sydney, New South Wales. The men's team competes in the Australian Football League (AFL), and the women's team in the AFL Women's (AFLW). The Swans also field a reserves men's team in the Victorian Football League (VFL). The club's origins trace back to 21 March 1873, when a meeting was held at the Clarendon Hotel in South Melbourne to establishing a junior football club, to be called the South Melbourne Football Club. The club commenced playing in 1874 at its home ground; Lakeside Oval in Albert Park. 1969 VFL Season
The 1969 VFL season was the 73rd season of the Victorian Football League (VFL), the highest level senior Australian rules football competition in Victoria. The season featured twelve clubs, ran from 5 April until 27 September, and comprised a 20-game home-and-away season followed by a finals series featuring the top four clubs. The premiership was won by the Richmond Football Club for the seventh time, after it defeated by 25 points in the 1969 VFL Grand Final. Premiership season In 1969, the VFL competition consisted of twelve teams of 18 on-the-field players each, plus two substitute players, known as the 19th man and the 20th man. A player could be substituted for any reason; however, once substituted, a player could not return to the field of play under any circumstances. The Darwin Football Club, nicknamed, Buffaloes, is an Australian rules football club, playing in the Northern Territory Football League. It is the third oldest football club in the Northern Territory. Darwin has won the second most premierships in the NTFL competition. It has produced a large number of Australian Footballers who went on to play professionally in the Australian Football League. Club achievements History The club was formed in 1916. They've been known as Warriors in 1917, Vestey’s in 1918, Buffaloes in 1926, Darwin in 1963 and eventually the Darwin Buffaloes in 2010. The Gloucester Advocate
''Gloucester Advocate'' is an English language newspaper published in Gloucester, New South Wales, Australia. Newspaper history The ''Gloucester Advocate'' was founded by Frank Townshend. Townshend was from a family of journalists and newspaper printers, and had previously been involved with the setting up of newspapers in Cape Town, New Zealand, Newcastle and the '' Walcha Witness'' in Balgowlah, New South Wales, which he edited and printed for over 40 years. Townshend arrived in Gloucester in 1905 to commence a paper there, and released the first issue of ''Gloucester Advocate'' on 8 July. This corresponded with the time that Australian Agricultural Company's 500,000 acre estate was being subdivided. After a short time, Townshend sold the newspaper to the Rye family in October 1906. Iwaidja People
The Iwaidja are an indigenous Australian people of the Northern Territory. Name Norman Tindale states that the name is based on their word for 'no' (''ii''). Language Iwaidja is one of the Iwaidjan languages of the Cobourg Peninsula, all of which are non-Pama–Nyungan languages. It is still spoken by some 150 speakers, at Minjilang on Croker Island. Country In Tindale's estimation the Iwaidja possessed some of tribal lands. Their centre was aMountnorris Bay in the eastern area of the Cobourg Peninsula. Tindale interprets Paul Foelsche's ''Unalla'' as a reference to the Iwaidja.
