''Return of the Funky Man'' is the second studio album by American hip hop recording artist Lord Finesse of Diggin' in the Crates Crew. It was released on February 11, 1992 via Warner Bros. subsidiary label Giant Records. Production was handled by seven record producers, including Diamond D, Showbiz, DJ Aladdin, SLJ, Latif, Petawane, and Lord Finesse himself. It also features guest appearances provided by A.G., Percee P, Harry-O and Shelrumble. The album peaked at number 95 on the US ''Billboard'' Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums, and its self-titled single made it to number 13 on the Hot Rap Songs. In 1991, Finesse split from his former partner DJ Mike Smooth and his former record label, Wild Pitch Records to release his first solo effort. Lord Finesse (born Robert Hall Jr., February 19, 1970) is an American rapper and hip-hop record producer from The Bronx, New York best known as the leader of the D.I.T.C. crew. About.com ranked him number 29 on its list of the Top-50 Hip-Hop Producers. Career In 1989, Finesse and his former partner DJ Mike Smooth signed with Wild Pitch Records, home of other popular hip hop artists such as Gang Starr, Main Source, Chill Rob G, Percee P and O.C. Death Row Records is an American record label that was founded in 1991 by The D.O.C., Dr. Dre, Suge Knight, and Dick Griffey. Lamont Coleman (May 30, 1974February 15, 1999), known professionally as Big L, was an American rapper and record executive. Emerging from Harlem in New York City in 1992, Coleman became known among underground hip-hop fans for his freestyling ability. He was eventually signed to Columbia Records, where, in 1995, he released his debut album, ''Lifestylez ov da Poor & Dangerous''. On February 15, 1999, Coleman was shot nine times in his East Harlem neighborhood and later died from his injuries. Danny Clinch (born 1964) is an American photographer and film director. Biography Born in Toms River, New Jersey, Clinch graduated from Toms River High School East in 1982. After attending Ocean County College, he attended the New England School of Photography, a two-year institution located in Boston. Body Count is an American Heavy metal music, heavy metal band formed in Los Angeles in 1990. The group is fronted by Ice-T, who first established himself as a rap music, rapper but co-founded the group with lead guitarist Ernie C out of their interest in heavy metal music. Ice-T took on the role of vocalist and writing the lyrics for most of Body Count's songs, while Ernie C has been responsible for writing the group's music. Body Count's Body Count (album), self-titled debut album was released on Sire Records in 1992, and garnered much attention due to a controversy around the song "Cop Killer (song), Cop Killer". Their label, Sire Records, and their parent company, Warner Bros. Cop Killer (song)
"Cop Killer" is a song composed by Ernie C with lyrics by Ice-T for American heavy metal band Body Count (band), Body Count, of which they were both members. Released on Body Count's 1992 Body Count (album), self-titled debut album, the song was written two years earlier, and was partially influenced by "Psycho Killer" by Talking Heads. The song's lyrics about "cop killing" provoked negative reactions from political figures of the time, such as then-President George H. W. Bush, as well as his vice-president Dan Quayle. Others defended the song on the basis of the band's First Amendment rights. Ice-T has referred to it as a "Protest song, protest record". Ice-T eventually recalled the album and re-released it without the inclusion of the song, which was given away as a free single. Wild Pitch Records was an American hip hop record label, started in 1987 by Stuart Fine, that was eventually distributed by EMI. Artists who released records on the label included Main Source, Lord Finesse, Ultramagnetic MCs, Chill Rob G, Gang Starr, UMC's, O.C., Broken English, Klik, Jamose, Hard Knocks, female rapper N-Tyce, Super Lover Cee and Casanova Rud, and The Coup. Together, Fine and Howard re-established and released the label's catalogue, while also releasing records by Mary Lees Corvette, BigMouth, Mighty Purple, the Wallmans, and Chico Hamilton under its All Points Jazz label.
