Retta Davidson
Retta Davidson (November 1, 1921 in Arcadia, California – June 12, 1998 in Carlsbad, California) was a United States animator. She is best known as one of the few women animators for Walt Disney Studios during the Golden Age of American animation. Career After graduating from high school in 1939, Davidson joined Disney as an inker and painter, where she worked on '' Pinocchio'', '' Bambi'', ''Fantasia'', and '' Sleeping Beauty''. The Disney studios were affected by the resultant labor shortage from World War II, and many of their lead animators were drafted to serve in the First Motion Picture Unit. In 1941, the studio asked members of the Ink and Paint Department to submit artwork to be considered for animation training and jobs in the animation department. ''Duck Dodgers and the Return of the 24½th Century'' is a 1980 animated short film starring Daffy Duck, Porky Pig and Marvin the Martian. It is the sequel to the 1953 cartoon ''Duck Dodgers in the 24½th Century''. It was the first Daffy and Porky cartoon since 1965. This cartoon first premiered on November 20, 1980, as part of an animated CBS television special called ''Daffy Duck's Thanks-for-Giving Special'', with scenes that would later be cut when this cartoon was reformatted as a short. A majority of Maltese's storyboards weren't used in the final product, including a duel with Marvin and Daffy and the majority of the boards had K-9, but the character was later deleted from the short entirely. Retta Scott
Retta Scott (February 23, 1916August 26, 1990) was an American artist. She was the first woman to receive screen credit as an animator at the Walt Disney Animation Studios. Early life and education Scott was born in Omak, Washington on February 23, 1916. She graduated from Seattle's Roosevelt High School in 1934. Scott received two scholarships over the course of her education. The first was from the Seattle Art & Music Foundation, who awarded her with a scholarship in the 4th grade that she used to attend 10 years of creative art classes. She later received 3-year scholarship to attend the Chouinard Art Institute, so she moved to Los Angeles, California. She spent much of her free time sketching wildlife at the nearby Griffith Park zoo. Her ambition was to mold a career in Fine arts.
