Resonate (festival)
Resonate is an annual festival for art and digital culture in Belgrade, Serbia, usually held over five days at the end of April. The first edition was held in 2012. It is the biggest media art festival in Serbia. The festival is part of a collaborative project We Are Europe (funded by the EU) together with festivals in other countries such as Sónar (Barcelona), c/o pop ( Cologne), TodaysArt, Elevate, Insomnia, Nuits Sonores, and Reworks. Resonate co-curates at some of these festivals too with independent programs and vice versa c/o pop, TodaysArt, Elevate and Sónar co-curated wing programs at Resonate. The festival has several activities during daytime and in the evening: a conference, varying exhibition formats, a film and video program, performances, and workshops. Blixa Bargeld
Blixa Bargeld (born Christian Emmerich, 12 January 1959) is a German musician who has been the lead singer of the band Einstürzende Neubauten since its formation in 1980. Bargeld was also a founding member of the Australian rock band Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, serving as a member from 1983 until his departure in 2003. Early life Bargeld left school prior to completion, and is self-taught. He experimented with audio equipment as a teenager, including the disassembling of tape recorders. The first album that he owned was by Pink Floyd, but he quickly moved on to German krautrock acts such as Kraftwerk, Neu! and Can, which he described as his biggest influences at the time. Bargeld is from the Tempelhof area of West Berlin and he moved out of his parents' home in the late 1970s. Stain
A stain is a discoloration that can be clearly distinguished from the surface, material, or medium it is found upon. They are caused by the chemical or physical interaction of two dissimilar materials. Accidental staining may make materials appear used, degraded or permanently unclean. Intentional staining is used in biochemical research and for artistic effect, such as wood staining, rust staining and stained glass. Rachel Binx
Rachel Binx is an American data visualizer, developer, and designer. She is the co-founder of Meshu and Gifpop, two companies that create physical objects, such as maps and animated GIFs, from social data. Binx has also worked at Stamen Design and NASA. Early life and education Binx is originally from New Mexico. In 2006, she moved to California to attend Santa Clara University, where she received a B.S. in Mathematics and a B.A. in Art History. After graduation, she freelanced in data visualization and web design. Career In 2011, Binx joined Stamen Design, a design and technology studio in San Francisco, California. Theodore Spyropoulos
Theodore Spyropoulos ( el, Θεόδωρος Σπυρόπουλος) is a Greek archeologist who is a regional official of Greece's Central Archaeological Council. Excavations at Tanagra At Tanagra, Spyropoulos began excavating a large Mycenaean cemetery in 1968. Every year, until Spyropoulos moved to the ephorate at Sparta, the excavation site yielded larnakes, pottery and terracottas. The chamber tombs uncovered were apparently in use from LH IIIA up until the end of LH IIIB and perhaps beyond. Excavations near Thebes Near Thebes, Spyropoulos excavated the supposed tomb of Amphion and Zethus between 1971 and 1973. He identified the structure of the tomb as a step-pyramid or ziggurat built during the 3rd millennium BC. Excavations at Pellana Spyropoulos discovered an alternative site for the palace of Menelaus at Pellana located 25 kilometers north of Sparta. Liam Young
Liam Young (born 13 March 1979) is an Australian-born film director and architect. Young's work is situated within the fields of design fiction and critical design. Described by the BBC as 'The man Designing our Futures', his work explores the increasingly blurred boundaries among film, fiction, design and storytelling with the goal of prototyping and imagining the future of the city. Using speculative design, film and the visualisation of imaginary cities, he opens up conversations querying urban existence, asking provocative questions about the roles of both architecture and entertainment. James Bridle
James Bridle (born 1980) is an artist, writer and publisher based in London. Bridle coined the New Aesthetic; their work "deals with the ways in which the digital, networked world reaches into the physical, offline one." Their work has explored aspects of the western security apparatus including drones and asylum seeker deportation. Bridle has written for ''WIRED'', ''Icon'', ''Domus'', ''Cabinet Magazine'', ''The Atlantic'' and many other publications, and writes a regular column for ''The Guardian'' on publishing and technology. Memo Akten (born 1975) is an artist and creative technologist based in London (UK). He is known for the reappropriation of advanced electronics, software and hardware systems to create multimedia experiences that he describes as an attempt to "change our perceptions on our relationship with science, nature technology and culture". Akten's 2013 work "FORMS" won the Golden Nica at the Prix Ars Electronica. He has shown work at the Victoria & Albert Museum, Royal Opera House, Royal Festival Hall, and Queen Elizabeth Hall. Golan Levin
Golan ( he, גּוֹלָן ''Gōlān''; ar, جولان ' or ') is the name of a biblical town later known from the works of Josephus (first century CE) and Eusebius (''Onomasticon'', early 4th century CE). Archaeologists localize the biblical city of Golan at Sahm el-Jaulān, a Syrian village east of Wadi ar-Ruqqad in the Daraa Governorate, where early Byzantine ruins were found. Israeli historical geographer, Zev Vilnay, tentatively identified the town Golan with the Goblana (Gaulan) of the Talmud which he thought to be the ruin ''ej-Jelêbîne'' on the Wâdy Dabûra, near the Lake of Huleh, by way of a corruption of the site's original name. Zach Gage is an indie video game developer based in New York City and best known for his iOS games, including '' SpellTower''. Gage learned to code throughout his youth and studied art at Skidmore College and Parsons School of Design, where he created installation and interactive works. Moritz Stefaner is a German data visualization specialist. He is notable for his work for organisations like the OECD, the World Economic Forum, Skype, dpa, and Max Planck Research Society. Stefaner is a multiple winner of the Kantar Information is Beautiful awards. His data visualisation work has been exhibited at Venice Biennale of Architecture and Ars Electronica.
