Research Range
The Research Range (russian: Исследовательский хребет) is a mountain range at the northern end of the Ural Mountains. It extends north of the Arctic Circle, and forms the border between the Komi Republic and the Khanty–Mansi Autonomous Okrug. The Research Range is 175 km long and the highest point is Mount Narodnaya (Гора Народная) or People's Mountain, at 1,894 m. The Research Range starts approximately at Mount Narodnaya and runs northeastward past Vorkuta almost to the Kara Sea and the Arctic Ocean. The primary rocks are metamorphic, mostly quartzites and slate. There are numerous glaciers near the tops and on the upper slopes of the mountains, the rest is mostly arctic desert and tundra. Komi Republic
The Komi Republic (russian: Республика Коми; kv, Коми Республика), sometimes simply referred to as Komi, is a republic of Russia located in Eastern Europe. Its capital is the city of Syktyvkar. The population of the republic as of the 2010 Census was 901,189. History The Komi people first feature in the records of the Novgorod Republic in the 12th century, when East Slavic traders from Novgorod traveled to the Perm region in search of furs and animal hides. The Komi territories came under the influence of Muscovy in the late Middle Ages (late 15th to early 16th centuries). The site of Syktyvkar, settled from the 16th century, was known as Sysolskoye (Сысольскoe). Metamorphic Rock
Metamorphic rocks arise from the transformation of existing rock to new types of rock in a process called metamorphism. The original rock (protolith) is subjected to temperatures greater than and, often, elevated pressure of or more, causing profound physical or chemical changes. During this process, the rock remains mostly in the solid state, but gradually recrystallizes to a new texture or mineral composition. The protolith may be an igneous, sedimentary, or existing metamorphic rock. Metamorphic rocks make up a large part of the Earth's crust and form 12% of the Earth's land surface. Mountain Ranges Of Russia
A mountain is an elevated portion of the Earth's crust, generally with steep sides that show significant exposed bedrock. Antal Reguly
Antal Reguly ( hu, Reguly Antal, 1819–1858) was a Hungarian linguist and ethnographer notable for his contribution to the study of Uralic languages. In 1843-4 he became the first ethnographer to visit the Mansi (Vogul) people to collect data on their language and folklore. Reguly's field work among the Uralic peoples of Russia ruined his health, and he died young, leaving much of the material he had collected to be edited by his successors, including Pál Hunfalvy. Reguly also visited Finland and translated parts of ''The Kalevala'' into Hungarian. The Reguly Antal Memorial Library and Reguly Antal Ethnographic Museum and Folk Art Workshop is in the town of Zirc, in Veszprém county, Hungary. Mount Karpinsky, Urals
Mount Karpinsky, or Karpinsky Mountain, is a peak in the circumpolar part of the Ural Mountains. It is part of the Research Range, and lies on the boundary between the Komi Republic and the Tyumen Oblast. Rising to a height of 1878 m, it is composed of quartzites and crystalline schists. The slopes are predominantly mountain tundra, but there are coniferous forests in the foothills. Mount Karpinsky was named for the geologist Aleksandr Petrovich Karpinsky."Карпинского гора"

The ''Great Soviet Encyclopedia'' (GSE; ) is one of the largest Russian-language encyclopedias, published in the Soviet Union from 1926 to 1990. After 2002, the encyclopedia's data was partially included into the later ''Bolshaya rossiyskaya entsiklopediya'' (or '' Great Russian Encyclopedia'') in an updated and revised form. In physical geography, tundra () is a type of biome where tree growth is hindered by frigid temperatures and short growing seasons. The term ''tundra'' comes through Russian (') from the Kildin Sámi word (') meaning "uplands", "treeless mountain tract". There are three regions and associated types of tundra: Arctic tundra, alpine tundra, and Antarctic tundra. Tundra vegetation is composed of dwarf shrubs, sedges, grasses, mosses, and lichens. Slate
Slate is a fine-grained, foliated, homogeneous metamorphic rock derived from an original shale-type sedimentary rock composed of clay or volcanic ash through low-grade regional metamorphism. It is the finest grained foliated metamorphic rock. Foliation may not correspond to the original sedimentary layering, but instead is in planes perpendicular to the direction of metamorphic compression. The foliation in slate is called "slaty cleavage". It is caused by strong compression causing fine grained clay flakes to regrow in planes perpendicular to the compression.
