"Requiem" is British Europop duo London Boys' first hit single, released on 28 November 1988 from their debut album, ''The Twelve Commandments of Dance'' (1989). The single was written and produced by Ralf René Maué. The single peaked at 4 in the United Kingdom, No. 8 in Ireland, and No. 11 in Austria. Critical reception According to James Masterton, "Requiem " is "the quintessential bubblegum Euro-hit, complete with bouncing bassline, a semi-rapped verse and the inevitable multi-tracked chorus". London Boys were a German-based United Kingdom, British dance-pop Musical duo, duo composed of Edem Ephraim (1 July 1959, London, UK – 21 January 1996) and Dennis Fuller (19 June 1959, Jamaica – 21 January 1996). They are best remembered for the UK Top 5 hits "Requiem (London Boys song), Requiem" and "London Nights (song), London Nights". The Official Charts (legal name: The Official UK Charts Company Limited) is a British inter-professional organization that compiles various "official" record charts in the United Kingdom, Ireland and France. In the United Kingdom, its charts include ones for singles, albums and films, with the data compiled from a mixture of downloads, purchases (of physical media) and streaming. The OCC produces its charts by gathering and combining sales data from retailers through market researchers Kantar, and claims to cover 99% of the singles market and 95% of the album market, and aims to collect data from any retailer who sells more than 100 chart items per week. Record Mirror
''Record Mirror'' was a British weekly music newspaper between 1954 and 1991 for pop fans and record collectors. Launched two years after the ''NME'', it never attained the circulation of its rival. The first UK album chart was published in ''Record Mirror'' in 1956, and during the 1980s it was the only consumer music paper to carry the official UK singles and UK albums charts used by the BBC for Radio 1 and ''Top of the Pops'', as well as the US ''Billboard'' charts. ''The Twelve Commandments of Dance'' is the debut album by German-based English dance-pop duo London Boys, released in 1989. It reached number 2 in the UK Albums Chart and stayed on the chart for 29 weeks. Other than the charting singles stated in the track listing, two other singles were released: "I'm Gonna Give My Heart" and "Dance Dance Dance". Critical reception A review published in ''Music Week'' presented the album as a "perfect, pimple-free, faceless pop music that attempts to be soulful but lacks any kind of charisma", reproached the fact that all the tracks "repeat the ameformula ad nauseum", and concluded that "the album is a danger to youngsters everywhere". Johnny Dee of ''Record Mirror'' stated that lyrically, the album is "all utter cack", but considered that the more important thing lies in the fact that every track "has a 132 bpm sequencer chugging away" and "a chorus so catchy" that listerners could not forget it and could perform "stupid dances" on it.
