Repretel 6
Canal 6 (previously known as Telecentro) is a private Costa Rican television channel, owned and operated by Repretel. It is the flagship TV station of the media group. History The channel was founded on September 12, 1965 as Telecentro Canal 6, led by Costa Rican and Panamanian investors, led by Mario Sotela Pacheco. In 1995 under tough TV market conditions, the Corporación Costarricense de Televisión of the Sotela family, decided to lease the TV station to Repretel for 10 years, by 2007, the lease ended, and Repretel bought the station, ending the rumors of Telecentro Canal 6's comeback. It became the third owned and operated station of the group and flagship of the other two. Digital terrestrial television (DTTV or DTT, or DTTB with "broadcasting") is a technology for terrestrial television in which land-based (terrestrial) television stations broadcast television content by radio waves to televisions in consumers' residences in a digital format. 1080i
1080i (also known as Full HD or BT.709) is a combination of frame resolution and scan type. 1080i is used in high-definition television (HDTV) and high-definition video. The number "1080" refers to the number of horizontal lines on the screen. The "i" is an abbreviation for "interlaced"; this indicates that only the even lines, then the odd lines of each frame (each image called a video field) are drawn alternately, so that only half the number of actual image frames are used to produce video. Representaciones Televisivas (Televised Representations) S.A., commonly known as Repretel or Grupo Repretel is a Costa Rican media company, founded by Remigio Gonzalez, that came into competition with Teletica and Canal9. Repretel owns Costa Rican channels 4, 6, 11 and 2. Repretel began operating in 1993 with Channel 9, in 2000 the lease expired and moved to Channel 4. The company also operates 11 radio stations. In 2012, Repretel bought Channel 2, from Mrs. Roxie Blen and branded the channel as CDR 2. Repretel 4
Canal 4 is a private Costa Rican television channel, owned and operated by Repretel. It was the second television station acquired by Repretel in Costa Rica. The station broadcasts on channel 6.2 which the frequency is used by sister channel Canal 6 due to the original frequency being impossible to convert to digital until 2021. History The station was acquired from TV Azteca, when the Mexican company decided to sell their Latin American television stations in Costa Rica, Guatemala, El Salvador and Chile to invest in their mobile services in Mexico. At the time of the sale, TV Azteca still owed money to original owners and responsible of Channel 9 operations. Since Repretel was sub-leasing Channel 9 from TV Azteca at the time, the process of the sale was seamless. Canal 11 is a private Costa Rican television channel, owned and operated by Repretel since 1996. It was the first station owned and operated by Repretel-Albavision group in Costa Rica. History Repretel bought the station from rival Teletica, due to a mismanagement from the leasing company operating the station, forcing the sale; Repretel was growing fast, leasing Channel 9 and 6; became the first TV-station owned and operated in Costa Rica. In 1996, the channel briefly relayed channel 6. On March 1, 1997, the channel became independent again, airing a schedule consisting primarily of imported cartoons and telenovelas.
