René Gauvreau
René Gauvreau is a Canadian politician in the province of Quebec, who was elected to represent the riding of Groulx in the National Assembly of Quebec in the 2008 provincial election. He is a member of the Parti Québécois, but sat as an independent for nine months until rejoining the PQ caucus in April 2012. Gauvreau is a graduate of the Université de Montréal, where he obtained a law degree in 1987, and practiced law until his election in 2008. Gauvreau also worked as a member of several non-profit organizations and foundations mostly in the lower Laurentides region. The Parti Québécois (; ; PQ) is a sovereignist and social democratic provincial political party in Quebec, Canada. The PQ advocates national sovereignty for Quebec involving independence of the province of Quebec from Canada and establishing a sovereign state. The PQ has also promoted the possibility of maintaining a loose political and economic sovereignty-association between Quebec and Canada. The party traditionally has support from the labour movement, but unlike most other social democratic parties, its ties with organized labour are informal. Laval (; ) is a city in Quebec, Canada. It is in the southwest of the province, north of Montreal. It is the largest suburb of Montreal, the third-largest city in the province after Montreal and Quebec City, and the thirteenth largest city in Canada with a population of 422,993 in 2016. Laurentides
The Laurentides () is a region of Quebec. While it is often called the Laurentians in English, the region includes only part of the Laurentian mountains. It has a total land area of and its population was 589,400 inhabitants as of the 2016 Census. The area is the traditional territory of the Algonquin First Nation. French Canadians began settlement in the first half of the 19th century, establishing an agricultural presence throughout the valleys.
