René Follet
René Follet (10 April 1931 – 13 March 2020), sometimes known by the pen name Ref, was a Belgian illustrator, comics writer and artist. His first publication appeared when he was 14, illustrating a promotional issue of Robert Louis Stevenson's ''Treasure Island'' for Aiglon, a chocolate factory. For both, he collaborated on the series of 4-page historical stories which functioned as a starting point for many young artists like Jean Graton and Hermann Huppen. Casterman is a publisher of Franco-Belgian comics, specializing in comic books and children's literature. The company is based in Brussels, Belgium. History The company was founded in 1780 by Donat-Joseph Casterman, an editor and bookseller originally from Tournai.Bocquet, José-Louis, and Fromental, Jean-Luc. Michel Régnier (5 May 1931 – 29 October 1999), best known by his pseudonym Greg, was a Belgian cartoonist best known for ''Achille Talon'', and later became editor of ''Tintin'' magazine. Biography Regnier was born in Ixelles, Belgium in 1931. His first series, ''Les Aventures de Nestor et Boniface'', appeared in the Belgian magazine '' Vers l'Avenir'' when he was sixteen. He moved to the comic magazine ''Héroic Albums'', going on to work for the Franco-Belgian comics magazine '' Spirou'' in 1954. In 1955 he launched his own magazine, ''Paddy'', but eventually discontinued it. ''Bruno Brazil'' is a Franco-Belgian comics series written by Greg, under the pseudonym Louis Albert, and drawn by William Vance. It was initially serialised in the Franco-Belgian comics magazine ''Tintin'', first appearing on January 17, 1967. The first album publication was in 1969, while the latest album was first published in 1995. While Dargaud had initially published the series up to the penultimate volume, the rights were eventually passed on to Le Lombard, which is part of the same holding company, Média-Participations, and the final volume was published under its banner. Joseph Gillain (), better known by his pen name Jijé (; 13 January 1914 – 19 June 1980), was a Belgian comics artist, best known for being a seminal artist on the ''Spirou et Fantasio'' strip (and for having introduced the Fantasio character) and the creator of one of the first major European western strips, ''Jerry Spring''. ''Blake and Mortimer'' is a Belgian comics series created by the writer and comics artist Edgar P. Jacobs. It was one of the first series to appear in the Franco-Belgian comics magazine ''Tintin'' in 1946, and was subsequently published in book form by Le Lombard. The main protagonists of the adventures are Philip Mortimer, a leading British scientist, and his friend Captain Francis Blake of MI5. The main antagonist is their sworn enemy, Colonel Olrik, who has appeared in almost every book. Their confrontations take them into the realms of detective investigation and science-fiction, dealing with such themes as time travel, Atlantis and espionage. William van Cutsem (8 September 1935 – 14 May 2018), better known by his pen name William Vance, was a Belgian comics artist known for his distinctive realistic style and work in Franco-Belgian comics. Biography William van Cutsem was born in Anderlecht near Brussels in 1935. After his military service in 1955–1956, he studied for four years at the Académie Royale des Beaux-Arts in Brussels. Originally from Flanders, he worked most of his life in France, and moved later to Santander, Spain. Michel Tacq, or Mitacq, (10 June 1927 – 22 May 1994) was an author of Belgian comics. He was involved in Scouting for most of his life. Biography Born in Uccle, Michel Tacq spent his childhood in Farciennes and Brussels. He went to study at the Saint-Marie Institute in Schaerbeek and stayed in France for the first years of World War II. He then returned to Belgium to continue his art studies in Charleroi. Ever since his early childhood, Tacq was involved in Scouting, a movement that has been of influence his entire career. At 17, he took on the pseudonym Mitak and developed the comic strip ''Tam Tam'', which appeared in magazines related with Scouting in 1944 and 1945.
