Rent Romus
Rent Romus (born 1968) is an American saxophonist and multi-instrumentalist, bandleader, music and performing arts producer, and community leader living in the San Francisco Bay area. Biography Beginnings Romus was born in Hancock, Michigan. He began playing piano at the age of five until he was thirteen when he decided to play the alto saxophone, which his mother also played. In 1982 and 1984, Romus attended the Stanford Jazz Workshop summer programs where he participated in master classes led by Stan Getz, Bruce Forman, Eddie Moore, and Dizzy Gillespie. Romus's exposure to Stan Getz was a pivotal moment in his early development where Getz would ask him to find a mirror and work on his tone watching his embouchure as he played. Michael Sidney Timpson (born February 26, 1970, in Mountain View, California) is an American composer of contemporary classical music. Early life and education Timpson was born and grew up in Silicon Valley, California, at the height of the computer age. Yoshi's (also known as Yoshi's Jazz Club and Yoshi's Oakland) is a nightclub located in Jack London Square in Oakland, California, United States. The venue originally opened in 1972 as a restaurant in Berkeley, later moving to Claremont Avenue in Oakland. In 1979, the restaurant expanded into a lounge/nightclub hosting local and national jazz musicians. In 1985, the venue was rebranded as Yoshi's Nitespot until 1997, when it moved yet again within the Port of Oakland. Thollem McDonas is an American pianist, improviser, composer, singer-songwriter, touring performer, musical educator, and social critic. His musical compositions and performances have ranged from classical, and free jazz, to experimental and punk rock. He has toured North America and Europe since 2006, performing solo works and collaborating with an array of musicians, dancers, dance companies and filmmakers. Origins and Musical Developments McDonas began studying piano at the age of 5. His mother was a piano teacher and this led him to study the instrument. John Tchicai
John Martin Tchicai ( ; 28 April 1936 – 8 October 2012) was a Danish free jazz saxophonist and composer. Biography Tchicai was born in Copenhagen, Denmark, to a Danish mother and a Congolese father. The family moved to Aarhus, where he studied violin when young, and in his mid-teens began playing clarinet and alto saxophone, focusing on the latter. By the late 1950s, he was travelling around northern Europe, playing with many musicians. In 1962, he met trumpeter Bill Dixon and saxophonist Archie Shepp at a festival in Helsinki. Stefan Pasborg
Stefan Pasborg (born 6 December 1974) is a Danish drummer, composer, and bandleader, and the founding member of ''ILK MUSIC'', a Danish record label. Biography Pasborg began playing the drums the age of three when received a drum set as a gift from Alex Riel, a close friend of his parents who also became Pasborg's first drum teacher. In later years, while kept playing, he decided to attend the Copenhagen Jazz Conservatory where the teachers included Peter Danemo, Niels-Henning Ørsted Pedersen, Ed Thigpen, and Aage Tanggard.
