Rent control in Scotland is based upon the statutory codes relating to private sector residential tenancies. Although not strictly within the private sector, tenancies granted by housing associations, etc., are dealt with as far as is appropriate in this context. Controlling prices, along with security of tenure and oversight by an independent regulator or the courts, is a part of rent regulation. Regarding Rent Act 1977 legislation, when the legislation deals solely with the law applicable to private sector residential tenancies, the Act usually covers, ''mutatis mutantis'', both Scotland and England and Wales; but when the legislation also covers other matters, it is more customary for separate parallel Acts to be promoted. First-tier Tribunal (Scotland)
The First-tier Tribunal is a first-instance general tribunal in the United Kingdom. It was created in 2008 as part of a programme, enacted in the Tribunals, Courts and Enforcement Act 2007, to rationalise the tribunal system, and has since taken on the functions of 20 previously existing tribunals. It is administered by His Majesty's Courts and Tribunals Service. It appeals to the Upper Tribunal, the second part of the 'two-tier system'. Chambers and jurisdiction The tribunal currently consists of seven chambers, structured around subject areas (although the General Regulatory Chamber has a very broad remit). The chambers may be divided into sections, mirroring the jurisdictions inherited from the tribunals which have been merged into the First-tier Tribunal. Housing Act 1969
The Housing Act 1969 is an Act of Parliament in the United Kingdom that provided grants to home owners and landlords to improve the quality of their housing and to help finance local authorities to improve the quality of housing stock under their control. Context The act gained royal assent in July 1969 and commencing on 25 August 1969. The legislation established the concept of General Improvement Areas which could be declared in regions of derelict or run-down housing to allow for regeneration as opposed to demolition and slum clearance. The act raised the maximum amount available from improvement grants, from £500 () to £1200 () for each property conversion of three or more storys, or 20% less for any other types of improvement, although the amount was flexible at the discretion of local authorities. The Clean Air Act 1956 was an Act of the Parliament of the United Kingdom enacted principally in response to London's Great Smog of 1952. It was sponsored by the Ministry of Housing and Local Government in England and the Department of Health for Scotland, and was in effect until 1993. The Act introduced a number of measures to reduce air pollution. Primary among them was mandated movement toward smokeless fuels, especially in high-population ‘smoke control areas’ to reduce smoke pollution and sulphur dioxide from household fires. Scottish Special Housing Association
The Scottish Special Housing Association was established in 1937 to provide good-quality social housing. It had headquarters in Edinburgh's West End, Palmerston Place and Manor Place, Edinburgh, where it employed a large team of architects, engineers and quantity surveyors. The Furnished Houses (Rent Control) Act 1946 was an Act of the Parliament of the United Kingdom that and set up rent tribunals to control rents in the private sector. and regulated renting prices.
