Maria Duyst Van Voorhout
Maria Duyst van Voorhout (1662 in Delft – 1754 in Utrecht), was a 17th-century heiress who lived to a great age and used her inheritance to start the Fundatie van Renswoude in three cities, Delft, Utrecht, and The Hague. Biography Maria was the daughter of a mayor of Delft and came from a long line of Delft beer brewers. Her parents died when she was young and she married at nineteen to a magistrate of Leiden, Dirk van Hogeveen, who died two years later. Against the wishes of her wealthy grandmother, she remarried Frederik Adriaan Reede van Renswoude, a nobleman who carried the title "Heer van Renswoude", but who led an expensive lifestyle and who had many debts. The couple had a daughter who died in infancy. In 1686 Maria's grandmother died and she inherited her fortune, but could only gain access to the funds after her husband died. Jan Hendrik Waszink
Jan Hendrik Waszink (17 October 1908, Renswoude – 5 October 1990, Lugano) was a Dutch Latin scholar, Professor of Latin at Leiden University. Best known as an expert on Tertullian, he also edited the translation and commentary by Calcidius on Plato's ''Timaeus''. Waszink is counted following Franz Joseph Dölger and others as one of the founders of Reallexikon für Antike und Christentum and with Christine Mohrmann of Vigiliae Christianae. Life Waszink was born in Renswoude, where his father was a doctor. He was educated at a local grammar school before studying classics at Leiden University, writing his PhD thesis (1933) on Tertullian. After being a grammar school teacher, he was appointed Professor of Latin at Leiden in 1946. Though best known for his interest in patristics - fired by Dölger's seminars - he also took an interest in neo-Latin, writing on Petrarch and participating in the edition of Erasmus. Hendrik Jan ("Henk-Jan") Held (born 12 November 1967 in Renswoude, Utrecht (province), Utrecht) is a volleyball player (game), player from the Netherlands, who represented his native country in two consecutive Summer Olympics, starting in Volleyball at the 1992 Summer Olympics, 1992 in Barcelona, Spain. Roelof Cornelis (Roel) Robbertsen (born 6 October 1948 in Renswoude) is a Dutch politician and pig farmer. He is a member of the Christian Democratic Appeal (''Christen-Democratisch Appèl''). From 1 June 2007 until 7 June 2013 he was Queen's Commissioner of the province of Utrecht. Veenendaal () is a municipality and a town in central Netherlands, located in the province of Utrecht. Veenendaal is the only population centre within its administrative borders. The municipality had a population of 67.601 inhabitants on 1 january 2022 and covers an area of . Scherpenzeel () is a municipality and a town in the Dutch province of Gelderland. As of , it has a population of , with approximately 6,000 adults. Woudenberg () is a municipality and a town in the central Netherlands, in the province of Utrecht. There are forests in the western part of the municipality. The Pyramid of Austerlitz is located in the municipality. Etymology The name Woudenberg refers to a forested hill; nowadays the town lies in an agricultural area about 8 km south of Amersfoort. Utrechtse Heuvelrug (; en, "Utrecht Hill Ridge") is a municipality in the Netherlands, in the province of Utrecht. It was formed on 1 January 2006 by merging the former municipalities of Amerongen, Doorn, Driebergen-Rijsenburg, Leersum, and Maarn. Name The name of the municipality is derived from the Utrecht Hill Ridge, a ridge of sandhills that covers part of the province of Utrecht.
