''Renovating Diverse City'' (stylized ''Renovating→Diverse City'') is the fourth album released by Christian recording artist tobyMac. All the tracks are remixes of songs from tobyMac's previous CD, ''Welcome to Diverse City'', with the exception of two original songs. Some remixes include new or revised pieces of the original song (ILL-M-I's original chorus doesn't appear until the final chorus, for instance). Several other Christian artists make appearances on this CD, including DJ Maj, Paul Wright, Tricia Brock of Superchick Superchick, originally known as Superchic '', was an American Christian alternative pop/rock band. Toby McKeehan (born Kevin Michael McKeehan; October 22, 1964), better known by his stage name TobyMac (styled tobyMac or TOBYMAC), is an American contemporary Christian music singer, rapper, songwriter, and record producer. He was first known for being a member of the Christian rap and rock trio DC Talk, staying with them from 1987 until they went on hiatus in 2000. Christian Hip Hop
Christian hip hop (originally gospel rap, also known as Christian rap, gospel hip hop or holy hip hop) is a subgenre of contemporary Christian music and hip hop music. It emerged from urban contemporary music and Christian media in the United States during the 1980s. ''Portable Sounds'', stylized as (portable sounds), is the third full-length studio album from Christian pop rock and hip hop artist tobyMac. It was released on February 20, 2007, and debuted at No. 10 on the ''Billboard'' 200. The album includes the singles "Lose My Soul", "Made to Love", "Boomin'", "I'm for You", and "One World (featuring Siti Monroe)". This album took a slightly different direction than tobyMac's previous hip hop efforts, having more of a pop sound. When it was released on iTunes, users were able to download a behind-the-scenes making of the album video, a digital booklet, and an acoustic version of "Made to Love". Michael Joseph "Mike" Allen (born October 9, 1970), professionally known as DJ Maj, is a Christian music DJ and rapper, contributing to gospel music albums released by tobyMac, GRITS, Ill Harmonics, Carman, dc Talk, and the Newsboys. DJ Maj has released several mixtapes, as well as three solo albums: ''BoogiRoot'', ''Speckled Goats'' and ''Speckled Goats II''. Early life His friends gave him the name "DJ Magic" after watching him play on turntables. Mike only learned to deejay because his friend who was a DJ moved away from Louisiana so he felt he had to learn it all for himself. He later changed his name to "DJ Maj" to reflect that, as a Christian, he did not want to be associated with magic. He continued to DJ as a way of paying his way through technical college and soon perfected the art, using it as a means of bringing " holy hip-hop" to the mainstream audience. Paul Wright (singer)
Paul Wright is an American musician originally from Eugene, Oregon. His debut album, '' Fly Away'', was recorded in Oregon with Christopher Stevens and released in 2003. He graduated from Northwest Christian University with a degree in Communications after spending a semester studying at the Contemporary Music Center in Martha's Vineyard. His 2008 album is titled ''Diego's Diary''. He is also on the tobyMac's albums ''Welcome to Diverse City'' and ''Renovating Diverse City''. He was signed to Gotee Records. In October 2009, he led a songwriting workshop in Thailand. Wright also recently released some singles which were custom songs he wrote for his fans. He offers his fans the opportunity to purchase an original song in which he writes and records their story for them.
