Rennie Pilgrem is an English electronic music producer. He is often considered responsible for the creation of the nu skool breaks genre. Before moving into breaks, Pilgrem was part of the influential rave group Rhythm Section along with Richie T, Ellis Dee and Nick Newton. Pilgrem is also the boss of Thursday Club Recordings a.k.a. TCR, a label which he founded in 1993, which has released material by B.L.I.M., Koma & Bones, Chris Carter, 2Sinners, Vigi, JDS, General Midi, Arthur Baker, Dopamine, Elite Force, Ãœberzone and Meat Katie. Nu Skool Breaks
Nu skool breaks (or nu breaks as it is sometimes referred) is a subgenre of breakbeat originating during the period between 1998 and 2002. The style is usually characterized by more abstract, more technical sounds, sometimes incorporated from other genres of electronic dance music, including UK garage, electro, and drum and bass. Typically, tracks ranged between 125 and 140 beats per minute (bpm), often featuring a dominant bass line. In contrast with big beat, another subgenre of breakbeat, the sound set consisted less of hip hop samples and acid-type sounds, instead emphasizing dance-friendliness and "new" sounds produced by modern production techniques using synthesizers, effect processors, and computers. General Midi (born Paul Crossman) is an English breakbeat DJ. In an undated online interview, Crossman named Al Watson as a writing partner and engineer, who also works with him in the duo Starecase. He now works as a teacher in Lampton School in London. General Midi has released several singles on breaks labels including TCR and DJ Hyper. He released his debut album titled ''Midi Style'' on Distinct'ive Records in October 2005, and a follow-up, ''Operation Overdrive'' in 2009. General Midi provided an hour-long guest mix and accompanying interview for Annie Nightingale's late night breaks show during the promotion of ''Operation Overdrive'' in 2009. Arthur Baker (born April 22, 1955) is an American record producer and DJ best known for his work with hip hop artists like Afrika Bambaataa and Planet Patrol, as well as British group New Order. He is also known for remixing the Jill Jones song "Mia Bocca" on the 12" single, taken from her self-titled debut album ''Jill Jones'' (1987), released on Prince's Paisley Park Records, as well as remixing the Pet Shop Boys song, " In The Night". His remix of the song was used as the main theme for the BBC TV programme The Clothes Show between 1986 and 1994. Timothy Wiles, known by the stage name Ãœberzone, is an electronic musician originally from Anaheim, California. He has also been known as Q, named after the popular character in the James Bond series. Wiles is well known for concocting interesting gizmos and gadgets. He made a hobby out of collecting electronic music gear since his early teen years, which inspired his nickname. He has been an avid producer on the electronic music and breakbeat scenes since the mid-1990s, playing at early raves. His first show as Ãœberzone was for DJ Sharpe at the Edge in Ft.
