Renishaw plc is a British engineering company based in Wotton-under-Edge, England. The company's products include coordinate-measuring machines and machine tool products. It is listed on the London Stock Exchange and is a constituent of the FTSE 250 Index. History The company was founded by Sir David McMurtry and John Deer in 1973. McMurtry had needed to measure fuel pipes on a prototype jet engine: at the time, coordinate-measuring machine sensors featured rigid styli, which required manual positioning on the surface and which yielded poor repeatability when measuring delicate components. To meet this need, McMurtry invented a touch-trigger probe device, which he then patented. The probe featured an elegant 'kinematic' location for a spring-loaded stylus, providing a highly repeatable seated position for the stylus combined with the compliance needed to measure such components. Renishaw, Derbyshire
Renishaw is a village in the district of North East Derbyshire in England. It is in the civil parish of Eckington, Derbyshire, Eckington. Renishaw lies on the A6135 road between the villages of Eckington, Derbyshire, Eckington and Barlborough. To the west is a section of the Trans Pennine Trail long distance footpath which runs along a former railway line. Adjacent to this is the route of the Chesterfield Canal which passes along the edge of the village. The canal is being restored in stages, with this section having some clearance work done in preparation for the section from Staveley to the south being reinstated. While Renishaw is the name for the village as a whole, in respect of the group of roads that lie south of the A6135 road, A6135, in the section of the highway that is locally named as Main Road (between Hague Lane (B6419) and Emmett Carr Lane), that part is named Emmett Carr.
