Alfred Barton Rendle
Alfred Barton Rendle FRS (19 January 1865 – 11 January 1938) was an English botanist. Rendle was born in Lewisham to John Samuel and Jane Wilson Rendle. He was educated in Lewisham where he first became interested in plants, St Olave's Grammar School, Southwark and St John's College, Cambridge. He graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree from Cambridge and Bachelor of Science from University of London in 1887. He was awarded Master of Arts degree from Cambridge in 1891 and D.Sc. degree from London in 1898. He won scholarships from his school and universities that covered most of the cost of his education and his move from Cambridge to London was prompted by a vacancy for a salaried position as an assistant in the Botanical Department of the British Museum. This made him focus on systematic botany for his career, focusing on gymnosperms, monocotyledons, and the Apetalae. Radio Rendle
Capital Disney was a British digital radio station aimed at 8 to 16 year olds which used to broadcast across the UK on DAB Digital Radio in selected areas. Capital Disney launched on 16 September 2002 as a joint venture between GCap Media PLC and The Walt Disney Company. It was also broadcast on Sky Digital, Tiscali TV, Virgin Media, and streaming online. The station announced on 14 May 2007 that it would close down on 29 June 2007. Capital Disney was one of the first radio stations in the country to use the newly developed Digital radio (DAB) format to provide a radio station specifically aimed at children and teenagers. The station broadcast twenty four hours a day with a series of presenter and music led programming. Theatre Of Hate
Theatre of Hate are a British post-punk band formed in London, England, in 1980. Led by singer-songwriter Kirk Brandon (formerly of the Pack), the original group also consisted of bassist Stan Stammers (formerly of the Straps and the Epileptics), saxophonist John "Boy" Lennard, guitarist Steve Guthrie and drummer Luke Rendle (formerly of Crisis and the Straps). Crisis are an English punk rock band formed in 1977 in Guildford, Surrey, England. They performed at rallies for Rock Against Racism and the Anti-Nazi League, and at Right to Work marches. British music magazine ''Sounds'' used the phrase "Music to March To" to describe their controversial and radical left-wing form of punk rock. History Formation and career Crisis formed in 1977 with the lineup of Phrazer (vocals), Lester Jones (lead guitar), Douglas Pearce (guitar), Tony Wakeford (bass) and Insect Robin the Cleaner (drums). Their debut single, "No Town Hall", was released in 1978 on Action Group Records. On 11 January 1978, Crisis recorded four tracks at a Peel Session for BBC Radio 1, with two of the tracks released as the "UK 79" 7" single in 1979 on the Ardkor label. Sharon Rendle
Sharon Susan Rendle MBE (born 18 June 1966 in Kingston upon Hull, East Riding of Yorkshire) is a female retired judoka from the United Kingdom. Judo career Rendle competed in two consecutive Summer Olympics, starting in 1992, when she won a bronze medal in the women's featherweight division (52 kg). She was a multiple medal winner at the World Championships including winning gold at both the 1987 and the 1989 World Championships, also in the women's featherweight division (52 kg). Rendle also won a gold medal in the 52 kg division at the 1988 Summer Olympics in Seoul, where women's judo was held as a demonstration sport. She also represented England at the 1990 Commonwealth Games and won a gold medal in the 52 kg half-lightweight category, at the judo event in Auckland, New Zealand. Thomas Rendle
Thomas Edward Rendle (born 29 September 1986) is a British FIDE International Master chess player and coach. Rendle became an International Master in June 2006 and is part way towards becoming a Grandmaster, with one GM Norm. He gained an interest in chess at an early age, and soon entered chess tournaments, gaining success in his age categories (such as becoming Mini Squad Under 7s Champion, England Under 11 Champion). He was put on top board for the England under 11 team and won the Sussex Under 18 Championships, whilst still under 12. In 1998 Rendle played Garry Kasparov in the BT Wireplay Challenge 1998. Sergeant Thomas Edward Rendle VC (14 December 1884 – 1 June 1946) was a British Army soldier and an English recipient of the Victoria Cross (VC), the highest and most prestigious award for gallantry in the face of the enemy that can be awarded to British and Commonwealth forces. Details He was 29 years old, and a bandsman in the 1st Battalion, The Duke of Cornwall's Light Infantry, British Army during the First World War when the following deed took place for which he was awarded the VC. On 20 November 1914 near Wulverghem, Belgium, Bandsman Rendle attended to the wounded under very heavy rifle and shell fire and rescued men from the trenches in which they had been buried from the blowing in of the parapets by the fire of the enemy's heavy howitzers.
