Rencontres D'Arles
The Rencontres d’Arles (formerly called ''Rencontres internationales de la photographie d’Arles'') is an annual summer photography festival founded in 1970 by the Arles photographer Lucien Clergue, the writer Michel Tournier and the historian Jean-Maurice Rouquette. The Rencontres d’Arles has an international reputation for showing material that has never been seen by the public before. In 2015, the festival welcomed 93,000 visitors; in 2016, the 100,000 visitor mark was reached. Specially designed exhibitions, often organised in collaboration with French and foreign museums and institutions, take place in various historic sites. Some venues, such as 12th-century chapels or 19th-century industrial buildings, are open to the public throughout the festival. An atelier () is the private workshop or studio of a professional artist in the fine or decorative arts or an architect, where a principal master and a number of assistants, students, and apprentices can work together producing fine art or visual art released under the master's name or supervision. Ateliers were the standard vocational practice for European artists from the Middle Ages to the 19th century, and common elsewhere in the world. Tom Wood (photographer)
Thomas Wood (born 14 January 1951) is an Irish street photography, street photographer, portraitist and landscape photographer, based in Britain. Wood is best known for his photographs in Liverpool and Merseyside from 1978 to 2001, "on the streets, in pubs and clubs, markets, workplaces, parks and football grounds" of "strangers, mixed with neighbours, family and friends." His work has been published in several books, been widely shown in solo exhibitions and received awards. He has a retrospective exhibition at the Walker Art Gallery in Liverpool until 7 January 2024. Val Williams is a British curator and author who has become an authority on British photography. She is the Professor of the History and Culture of Photography at the London College of Communication, part of the University of the Arts London, and was formerly the Curator of Exhibitions and Collections at the Hasselblad Center. Erik Kessels
Erik Kessels (1966) is a Dutch artist, designer and curator with a particular interest in photography, and co-founder of KesselsKramer, an advertising agency in Amsterdam. Kessels and Johan Kramer established the "legendary and unorthodox" KesselsKramer in 1996, and KesselsKramer Publishing, their Amsterdam-based publishing house. He is "best known as a book publisher specialising in absurdist found photography", extensively publishing his and others' found and vernacular photography. Alice Rose George (October 23, 1944 – December 22, 2020) was an American writer, poet, curator, and photography editor. Early life Alice Rose George was born in Silver Creek, Mississippi, the daughter of James George and Louise Fairman George. Her parents were farmers; her mother was also a trained pianist. She learned to play piano and graduated from Monticello High School in 1962, and from H. Sophie Newcomb Memorial College in New Orleans in 1966, with a degree in English. Marin Karmitz (born 7 October 1938) is a Romanian-French businessman whose career has spanned the French film industry, including director, producer, film distributor, and operator of a chain of cinemas. Karmitz attended film school at IDHEC (renamed La Fémis) and worked as a director of photography after graduating. Karmitz founded MK2, a production company and movie theater chain, which has specialized in creating, distributing, and screening independent or "auteurist" cinema, including short films. Hubert Védrine (; born 31 July 1947) is a French Socialist politician. He is an advisor at Moelis & Company.
