Remy Presas
Remy Amador Presas (December 19, 1936 – August 28, 2001) was the founder of Modern Arnis, a popular Filipino people, Filipino martial art. Born in the Philippines, he moved to the United States in 1974, where he taught his art via seminars and camps. In 1982 he was inducted into the Black Belt (magazine), Black Belt Hall of Fame as Instructor of the Year. He published several books and videos on Modern Arnis and is recognised as the "Father of Modern Arnis". Early life and training Presas was born in the town of Hinigaran, Negros Occidental, Philippines, the son of Jose B. Presas, a businessman, and the former Lucia Amador. He began studying arnis with his father then with his grandfather, Leon Presas, and uncle at the age of six. Hinigaran
Hinigaran, officially the Municipality of Hinigaran ( hil, Banwa sang Hinigaran; tl, Bayan ng Hinigaran), is a 1st class municipality in the province of Negros Occidental, Philippines. According to the 2020 census, it has a population of 88,909 people. It is south from Bacolod. History The early inhabitants of this town were the semi-primitive people called "Mundos" and "Ambaks". When traders and settlers from Panay started moving in, the natives were driven to the mountains. The new settlers were called "Tagahigad" and when the Spaniards came the place was called "Ginigaran" from the word "higad" but it was later spelled and pronounced as Hinigaran. The town was founded in 1765 and Captain Basilio Mongcal was appointed as the first president in 1806. Tim Hartman
Tim Hartman (born 1965) is a practitioner of the Filipino martial art of modern arnis and balintawak eskrima, and the president of the World Modern Arnis Alliance (WMAA). In 2000, he tested for his 6th degree black belt and Datu at the Michigan summer camp, making him the highest tested rank in the U.S. under Remy Presas, founder of modern arnis. Hartman gives seminars and camps across North America and Europe. In June 2005, Hartman was promoted to 9th degree by the WMAA Advisory Board.- This promotion reflected his leadership position within the WMAA, and was not meant to replace the rank that he earned from Presas. Ernesto Presas
Kombatan is a Filipino martial arts system. The founder of the system was GGM Ernesto Amador Presas (10th DAN). The current head of the system is Ernesto Presas Jr. The style is known for its double stick techniques, but it features other stick and blade techniques, as well as empty-hand methods. Ernesto A. Presas Sr. was born in the coastal town of Hinigaran, Negros Occidental on May 20, 1945. At age 8 he began his martial arts training under his father, Jose Presas, a well known escrima practitioner at that time. He went on to be an athlete in his college years, participating in various sports. His training in the martial arts is eclectic, having studied judo, jujutsu, karate, and various forms of Filipino and Japanese weaponry.
