Reliance Film Company
Reliance Film Company (1910–1915) was an early movie production studio in the United States. It was established in 1910 in Coney Island by Adam Kessel Jr. and Charles O. Baumann. Harry Aitken purchased the Reliance Film Company in 1911 from Charles O. Baumann. It also went by the name the Reliance Motion Picture Company. History Reliance Film Company was founded in 1910 by Adam Kessel Jr. and Charles O. Baumann in Coney Island in Brooklyn, New York City. It was a subsidiary of the New York Motion Picture Company. They were also the founders of the Bison Film Company on the West Coast. In 1911, Baumann stepped down from leadership at the company in order to focus more time at the Bison Film Company; control and management was succeeded by J. V. Ritchey and J. C. Graham. Adam Kessel
Adam Kessel, Jr. (1866–1946) was a film company executive. He partnered with Charles Baumann in a series of film distribution and production companies. Kessel was one of the founders of the New York Motion Picture Company in 1909. The Kay-Bee brand was based on Kessel and Baumann's last names. Bauman and Kessel partnered with Mack Sennett and Thomas Ince, as well as Adam's brother Charles Kessel, sharing ownership of the newly established Keystone Film Company in 1912. The four major players also partnered on Alco Film Corporation and the group joined with Harry Aitken to form Triangle Film Corporation. James Sheridan Knowles
James Sheridan Knowles (12 May 1784 – 30 November 1862) was an Irish dramatist and actor. Biography Knowles was born in Cork. His father was the lexicographer James Knowles (1759–1840), cousin of Richard Brinsley Sheridan. The family moved to London in 1793, and at the age of fourteen Knowles published a ballad entitled ''The Welsh Harper'', which, set to music, was very popular. His talents secured him the friendship of William Hazlitt, who introduced him to Charles Lamb and Samuel Taylor Coleridge. He served for some time in the Wiltshire and afterwards in the Tower Hamlets militia, leaving the service to become a pupil of Dr Robert Willan (1757–1812). He obtained the degree of M.D., and was appointed vaccinator to the Jennerian Society.
