Albert Relf
Albert Edward Relf (26 June 1874 – 26 March 1937) was a professional cricketer who played for Sussex and England. Relf was an all-rounder who batted in the middle order and bowled off-breaks at medium pace with great accuracy. He played Minor Counties cricket for Norfolk, a coaching engagement with the Earl of Wilton at Houghton Hall gaining him a residential qualification. At the age of 25, he returned to Sussex to play for the county of his birth, initially enjoying mixed success. At first he played as a batsman who bowled a bit, his bowling developed in 1903 to the point where he was picked for the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) tour to Australia under Plum Warner. He played in two Tests, helping Tip Foster add 115 for the ninth wicket in his first match at Sydney. Bob Relf
Robert Nelson Relf (January 10, 1937 – November 20, 2007) was an American R&B and soul musician. Best known as half of the soul music duo Bob & Earl whose song, Harlem Shuffle was released in the US in 1963 and in the UK in 1964. It was re-released 1969 reaching No 7 in the UK charts. Relf's recording of the song "Blowing My Mind to Pieces" was written by Lou Barreto as well as being produced by Lou Barreto and Rod Bumgardner. The song became popular on the Northern soul scene in the UK in the 1970s. Musical career Relf attended Fremont High School, Los Angeles, and in 1954 joined fellow pupils Sam Jackson, Ted Brown and Ronald Brown in forming a doo wop group, The Laurels. Carolyn Relf is a Canadian geologist. She has served as director of the Yukon Geological Survey (since January 2008), project geologist with the Government of the Northwest Territories, chief geologist with Indigenous and Northern Affairs Canada, federal co-manager of the Northwest Territories' Geoscience Office, director of the Mineral and Petroleum Resources for Indian and Northern Affairs Canada, as well as adjunct professor at the University of Alberta. Ernest Herbert Relf (19 November 1888 – 27 July 1918) was an English cricketer active from 1912 to 1914 who played for Sussex. He was born in Sandhurst, Berkshire and died in Leicester. He appeared in twelve first-class matches as a righthanded batsman who bowled right arm medium pace. Jane Relf (born 7 March 1947) is a British singer, best known as the original vocalist for the progressive rock band Renaissance. She is the younger sister of Keith Relf of the Yardbirds. Renaissance In January 1969 Keith Relf and Jim McCarty of the Yardbirds formed Renaissance with pianist John Hawken and bassist Louis Cennamo. Despite having no previous experience, Jane was invited by her brother to be the new band's vocalist. She subsequently appeared on the band's self-titled debut album later that year. Robert Edward Relf (1924 – 12 October 2014) was an English political activist of the far right. Regarded by his sympathisers as a 'race martyr', he briefly became a cause célèbre for the tabloid press in the 1970s. Early years Relf spent most of his working life as a bus driver although he also had a spell as a paratrooper. He was involved in far-right activity in the Midlands during the 1960s and was arrested in 1965 as a suspect in a cross burning incident. Following this incident he was invited onto ''Midlands Today'' to present his point of view, an appearance widely condemned by anti-racist campaigners in the region. Robert Relf (born 29 January 1971) is an Australian former professional rugby league footballer who played in the 1990s and 2000s. Background Relf grew up in a small town called Gloucester, New South Wales, Australia. Playing career Relf played local football in the Gloucester area and then was offered a contract to play for Canterbury-Bankstown. In 1994, Relf played 10 matches for the club but was not included in the grand final losing side against Canberra.
