Reinhold Schneider Prize
The Reinhold-Schneider-Preis (Reinhold Schneider Prize) is the cultural prize awarded by the German town of Freiburg im Breisgau. It has been awarded biennially since 1960, alternating between literature, music and art. In addition to the main prize of €15,000, a ''Förderpreis'' (scholarship) of €6,000 is awarded. A connection of the recipient to Freiburg is essential, since that was the case for the writer Reinhold Schneider for whom the prize is named. Freiburg Im Breisgau
Freiburg im Breisgau (; abbreviated as Freiburg i. Br. or Freiburg i. Hans Peter Haller
Hans Peter Haller (26 October 1929 – 16 April 2006) was a German composer and pioneer of electroacoustic music. Life Born in Radolfzell, Haller studied church music in Heidelberg from 1947 and took composition lessons with Wolfgang Fortner and René Leibowitz. From 1950, he worked as a recording manager and programme editor at Südwestfunk Baden-Baden. From 1954 to 1958, he studied musicology at the Albert-Ludwigs-Universität Freiburg with Wilibald Gurlitt. After returning to the Sudwestfunk in 1959, he turned increasingly to electronic and Neue Musik. For the composition ''Mantra'', a work commissioned by Karlheinz Stockhausen for Südwestfunk (1969), Haller built a sound transducer with the engineer Peter Lawo. Dietmar Dath
Dietmar Dath (born 3 April 1970) is a German author, journalist and translator. Life Born in Rheinfelden, Dath grew up in Schopfheim, Germany, and finished high school in Freiburg. After civilian service he studied German studies and physics in Freiburg. He lives in Freiburg, Frankfurt and Leipzig. Since 1990 he has published articles and short stories in German and international newspapers and magazines on sociological, philosophical and cultural topics. Besides his real name, he has been known to use pseudonyms such as "David Dalek", "Dagmar Dath" or "Dieter Draht". Ensemble Recherche
The ensemble recherche is a German classical music ensemble of nine soloists, especially dedicated to contemporary music. Founded in Freiburg im Breisgau in 1985, they premiered some 500 works. They were awarded the Schneider-Schott Music Prize in 1995 and the Rheingau Musikpreis in 1997. Career The ensemble was founded in 1985 and is based in Freiburg. The repertoire is focused on the music of the 20th and 21st century while covering the spectrum from classical modernism and the Darmstadt School to contemporary music, but occasionally also includes works composed before 1700, interpreted from a contemporary perspective. Klaus Theweleit
Klaus Theweleit (born 7 February 1942) is a German sociologist and writer. Life Theweleit was born in Ebenrode, East Prussia (now Nesterov, Russia), the son of a railway company worker and a Jewish mother. Rainer Kussmaul (3 June 1946 – 27 March 2017) was a German Grammy Award-winning violinist and conductor. Kussmaul was born in Mannheim and studied at the State Academy of Fine Arts Stuttgart. Freiburger Barockorchester
Freiburger Barockorchester (Freiburg Baroque Orchestra) is a German Baroque orchestra founded in 1987, with the mission statement: "to enliven the world of Baroque music with new sounds". History The orchestra is based in Freiburg im Breisgau. In addition to Baroque music, it has performed works by composers such as Ludwig van Beethoven, Beethoven, Franz Schubert, Schubert and Carl Maria von Weber, Weber, and contemporary music. The orchestra gave its first concert in 1987 and began touring abroad with a performance in Amsterdam in 1989. The first tour to America in 1995. Peter Vogel (artist)
Peter Vogel (9 March 1937 – 8 May 2017) was a German artist, best known for his interactive electronic sculptures and sound art pieces. Life Interaction was the artist's central intention, the viewer becomes a participant, a player who can influence the work through his impulses. Vogel was thus an exponent of a generation of artists who placed the viewer's participation at the center of their work. Even in the context of constructive-concrete and kinetic art, the goal is to combine art and life in order to provide the recipient with an active and sensual-aesthetic experience that goes beyond just looking at the picture. Annette Pehnt (born 1967 in Cologne) is a German writer and literary critic. She lives in Freiburg in Baden-Württemberg. After graduating from school in 1986 Pehnt performed voluntary social work in Belfast. After a year living in Scotland, she studied English, Celtic studies and German language and literature at the University of Cologne, University of Galway, University of California, Berkeley and University of Freiburg. Bernhard Hassenstein (31 May 1922 – 16 April 2016) was a German biologist and psychobiology, psychobiologist. Life and work Bernhard Hassenstein was a student of behavioral physiologist Erich von Holst and one of the leading researchers in the fields of behavioral biology and bio-cybernetics. Günter Steinke
Günter Steinke (born 24 April 1956) is a German composer and teacher. He is currently professor of instrumental composition at the Folkwang University of the Arts in Essen, Germany. Biography Steinke was born 24 April 1956 in Lübeck. He studied at the Hochschule für Musik Freiburg during 1984–88, with Klaus Huber (composition), Mesías Maiguashca (electronic music) and Peter Förtig (music theory). Edith Picht-Axenfeld
Edith Picht-Axenfeld (Freiburg im Breisgau, 1 January 1914 – Hinterzarten, 19 April 2001) was a German pianist and harpsichordist. Career She started her concert career in 1935, and took part two years later in the III International Chopin Piano Competition, when she was awarded the sixth prize; this launched her career. After the Second World War, Picht-Axenfeld performed at an intercontinental level, was active as a chamber musician and recorded for labels such as Deutsche Grammophon, Philips and Erato.
