David Reimer
David Reimer (born Bruce Peter Reimer; 22 August 1965 – 4 May 2004) was a Canadian man born male but raised as a girl following medical advice and intervention after his penis was severely injured during a botched circumcision in infancy. The psychologist John Money oversaw the case and reported the reassignment as successful and as evidence that gender identity is primarily learned. The academic sexologist Milton Diamond later reported that Reimer's realization that he was not a girl crystallized between the ages of 9 and 11 years and that he was living as a male by age 15. Well known in medical circles for years anonymously as the "John/Joan" case, Reimer later went public with his story to help discourage similar medical practices. Dennis Reimer
Dennis Joe Reimer (born July 12, 1939) is a retired general of the United States Army, who served as the 33rd Chief of Staff of the Army from June 20, 1995 to June 21, 1999. He is also a graduate of Ranger and Airborne school. Early life and education Reimer was born in Enid, Oklahoma on July 12, 1939 and grew up in Medford, Oklahoma. He graduated from the United States Military Academy at West Point and was commissioned into the United States Army as a second lieutenant in June 1962. Career After being commissioned, Reimer attended the Field Artillery Officer Orientation Course at Fort Sill. Jeffrey Allen Reimer is an American chemist, academic, author and researcher. He is the C. Judson King Endowed Professor, a Warren and Katharine Schlinger Distinguished Professor and the Chair of the Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering Department at University of California, Berkeley. Reimer has authored over 250 publications, has been cited over 14,000 times, and has a Google Scholar H-index of 63. His research is primarily focused to generate new knowledge to deliver environmental protection, sustainability, and fundamental insights via materials chemistry, physics, and engineering. Klaas Reimer
Klaas Reimer (1770–1837) was the founder of the Kleine Gemeinde, a Mennonite denomination that still exists in Latin America, but underwent radical changes in Canada where it is now called the Evangelical Mennonite Conference. Ethnic Mennonite remigrants from Latin America brought the original Kleine Gemeinde back to Canada and the US. Biography Reimer was born in 1770 to Heinrich Reimer and Agatha Epp (b. 1745) in the Vistula delta Mennonite settlement of Petershagen, Prussia, located about 35 km east of the city of Danzig (Gdańsk). Heinrich died while his son was still young; his mother later remarried Abraham Janzen (1747–1822), a wealthy farmer. During his childhood, Reimer received no formal education. At age twenty, Klaas was baptized and accepted into the Danzig Mennonite fellowship. Eugene Reimer
Eugene "Gene" Reimer (21 January 1940 – 9 June 2008) was a Canadian wheelchair Paralympic athlete who won 10 Paralympic medals and 50 Canadian and Pan-American medals from 1968 to 1980. Having polio at an early age, he was a member of the wheelchair basketball team Vancouver Cable Cars alongside Terry Fox and Rick Hansen. In 1972, Reimer became the first person with a disability to be named Canada's Outstanding Male Athlete of the Year and to be inducted into the Order of Canada. Personal life Reimer was born on 21 January 1940 in Swift Current, Saskatchewan. At the age of three, he contacted polio, leaving him with paraplegia. Doug Reimer (born 1961) is the head coach for the UBC Thunderbirds' women's volleyball team and is a former volleyball player. As a head coach, he has won the U Sports women's volleyball championship ten times (once with the Winnipeg Wesmen and ninth with the Thunderbirds) and has been named the U Sports women's volleyball coach of the year five times. Jakob (Jack) Reimer (November 6, 1918 – August 3, 2005) was a Trawniki camp guard who later emigrated to the United States and became a salesman and restaurant manager. Biography Early life in USSR Born to Russian Mennonite parents in Friedensdorf in southeastern Ukraine, Reimer studied to be a librarian. Second World War In 1940, Reimer was drafted into the Soviet Army. When Germany invaded the Soviet Union on June 22, 1941, Reimer entered combat and was captured by German forces on July 6. Two months later, due to his ethnic German heritage and language skills, he was recruited to the Trawniki concentration camp for training as a camp guard. While serving as a camp guard, Reimer participated in the liquidation of Jewish ghettos in Poland, in addition to administrative and office duties. Patrick Reimer (born 10 December 1982) is a German former professional ice hockey forward who played for the DEG Metro Stars and Nürnberg Ice Tigers of the Deutsche Eishockey Liga (DEL). Bennett Reimer (June 19, 1932 – November 18, 2013) was an American music educator. He held the John W. Beattie Endowed Chair in Music at Northwestern University from 1978 until retirement in 1997, where he was chair of the Music Education Department, director of the Ph.D. program in Music Education, and founder and director of the Center for the Study of Education and the Musical Experience, a research group of Ph.D. students and faculty. Georg Reimer
Georg Friedrich Reimer (17 May 1828, Leipzig – 17 September 1866, Berlin) was a German genre painter from the Düsseldorf School. Life Reimer was the only son of the bookseller Karl August Reimer (1801–1858) from his first marriage to Auguste, née Hörner (1805–1834). His grandfather and namesake was the art-loving Leipzig publisher Georg Andreas Reimer. His sister Maria Auguste (1832–1907) married the historian Theodor Mommsen in 1854. Reimer grew up in Leipzig. He received artistic training as a painter as a private student of Rudolf Jordan in Düsseldorf, where he lived for a while as a genre painter and draftsman.
