Reidar Birkeland
Gustav Reidar Birkeland (19 November 1928 – 19 September 2018) was a Norwegian veterinarian. Life and career Gustav Reidar Birkeland was born in Sauda, and took the ''dr.med.vet.'' degree in 1955. He was a lecturer in surgery at the Norwegian School of Veterinary Science from 1959 to 1984, and then professor from 1985 to 1994. He also served as dean there from 1983 to 1988. Sauda ''()'' is a municipality in Rogaland county, Norway. The administrative centre of the municipality is the town of Sauda, where most of the population lives. Other villages in the municipality include Saudasjøen and Amdal. Despite being in the northern part of the region of Ryfylke, Sauda participates in the Haugalandet Council and is under the jurisdiction of the Haugaland og Sunnhordland District Court. Norwegian School Of Veterinary Science
Norwegian School of Veterinary Science ( no, Norges veterinærhøgskole) or NVH was a public university located at Adamstuen in Oslo, that educated veterinarians and veterinary nurses as well as research within aquatic medicine, food safety, comparative medicine and mammalian diseases, health and welfare. The institution had about 450 employees and 500 students. Parts of the research were conducted in Tromsø and Sandnes. On 6 January 2014 the school joined with the Norwegian University of Life Sciences in Ås, and by 2020 it will be completely relocated to the same location. Weiert Martin Velle (18 May 1925 – 29 April 2007) was a Norwegian veterinarian. He was born in Lista. He took the dr.med.vet. degree in 1959, and also the dr.philos. in 1999. He was a professor of physiology at the Norwegian School of Veterinary Science from 1965 to 1993, and served as rector there from 1975 to 1982. Kåre Fossum (born 19 September 1936) is a Norwegian veterinarian. He was hired at the Norwegian School of Veterinary Science in 1961. He started as a research assistant, then became associate professor, then professor of microbiology and immunology from 1975. He served as rector of the Norwegian School of Veterinary Science from 1989 to 1992, with assistance from prorector Knut Rønningen. From 1973 to 1975 he was a guest professor at the Department of Public Health, Pharmacology and Toxicology at the University of Nairobi, and he has also been director of the ''Veterinærmedisinsk senter'' in Tromsø. In 1995 he was hired at the National Veterinary Institute. He is a member of Norwegian Academy of Science and Letters.
