Reid Cornelius
Jonathan Reid Cornelius (born June 2, 1970) is an American former professional baseball player and current bullpen coach for the Colorado Rockies of Major League Baseball (MLB). He played in MLB for all or parts of three seasons between 1995 and 2000 for the Montreal Expos, New York Mets, and Florida Marlins. Career Cornelius was born in Thomasville, Alabama to Ted, a school principal, and Ila Cornelius, a teacher's aide. His older brother, Pat, played college baseball at Auburn. He maintained a 97.6 grade average at Thomasville High School. He planned to play college baseball at Mississippi State but chose instead to begin a professional career after being taken in the eleventh round of the 1988 Major League Baseball draft by the Montreal Expos and receiving a signing bonus of $225,000 (). In baseball, the pitcher is the player who throws ("pitches") the baseball from the pitcher's mound toward the catcher to begin each play, with the goal of retiring a batter, who attempts to either make contact with the pitched ball or draw a walk. Jupiter Hammerheads
The Jupiter Hammerheads are a Minor League Baseball team of the Florida State League and the Single-A affiliate of the Miami Marlins. They are located in the town of Jupiter, Florida, Jupiter in Palm Beach County, Florida, and play their home games at Roger Dean Stadium, Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium. Gwinnett Stripers
The Gwinnett Stripers are a Minor League Baseball team of the International League (IL) and the Triple-A affiliate of the Atlanta Braves. They play their home games at Coolray Field in unincorporated Gwinnett County, Georgia (with a Lawrenceville address) in suburban Atlanta, Georgia. They are named for striped bass in reference to the popularity of fishing in the region. The team was established in 2009 after the International League's Richmond Braves relocated from Richmond, Virginia. Midwest League
The Midwest League is a Minor League Baseball league established in 1947 and based in the Midwestern United States. A Class A league for most of its history, the league was promoted to High-A as part of Major League Baseball's 2021 reorganization of the minor leagues. The Midwest League began as the Illinois State League (1947–1948) and then became the Mississippi–Ohio Valley League (1949–1955). The Rockford Expos was the initial moniker of the minor league baseball teams located in Rockford, Illinois from 1988 to 1999. The Expos were Rockford's first entity in the Midwest League and Rockford teams were minor league affiliates of the Montreal Expos (1988–1992), Kansas City Royals (1993–1994), Chicago Cubs (1995–1998) and Cincinnati Reds (1999), hosting home games at Marinelli Field. Signing Bonus
A signing bonus or sign-on bonus is a sum of money paid to a new employee (including a professional sports person) by a company as an incentive to join that company. They are often given as a way of making a compensation package more attractive to the employee (e.g., if the annual salary is lower than they desire). It also lowers the risk to the company as it is a one-time payment; for example, if the employee does not meet expectations, the company has not committed to a higher salary. Signing bonuses are often used in professional sports, and to recruit graduates into their first jobs. To encourage employees to stay at the organization, there are often clauses in the contract whereby if the employee quits before a specified period, they must return the signing bonus.
