Regular Language Description For XML
REgular LAnguage description for XML (RELAX) is a specification for describing XML-based languages. A description written in RELAX is called a RELAX grammar. ''RELAX Core'' has been approved as an ISO/IEC Technical Report 22250-1 in 2002 (ISO/IEC TR 22250-1:2002). It was developed by ISO/IEC JTC 1/SC 34 (ISO/IEC Joint Technical Committee 1, Subcommittee 34 - Document description and processing languages). RELAX was designed by Murata Makoto. In 2001, an XML schema language RELAX NG was created by unifying of RELAX Core and James Clark's TREX. It was published as ISO/IEC 19757-2 in 2003. Murata Makoto
is a Japanese computer scientist, Ph.D. in engineering, and Project Professor at Keio University. He participated in the W3C (World Wide Web Consortium) XML Working Group. The Working Group designed XML1.0, a markup language specification. Murata and James Clark designed RELAX NG, an XML schema language. Murata is the convener of ISO/IEC JTC 1/SC 34 WG 4, responsible for Office Open XML maintenance. Work XML1.0 and XML Japanese Profile In 1997, Murata participated in W3C (World Wide Web Consortium) XML Working Group. Jon Bosak, James Clark and Tim Bray were also members of the group. In computing, RELAX NG (REgular LAnguage for XML Next Generation) is a schema language for XML—a RELAX NG schema specifies a pattern for the structure and content of an XML document. A RELAX NG schema is itself an XML document but RELAX NG also offers a popular compact, non-XML syntax. Compared to other XML schema languages RELAX NG is considered relatively simple. It was defined by a committee specification of the OASIS RELAX NG technical committee in 2001 and 2002, based on Murata Makoto's RELAX and James Clark's TREX, and also by part two of the international standard ISO/IEC 19757: Document Schema Definition Languages ( DSDL). James Clark (programmer)
James Clark (born 23 February 1964) is a software engineer and creator of various open-source software including groff, expat and several XML specifications. Education and early life Clark was born in London and educated at Charterhouse School and Merton College, Oxford where he studied Mathematics and Philosophy. Career Clark has lived in Bangkok, Thailand since 1995, and is permanent Thai resident. He owns a company called Thai Open Source Software Center, which provides him a legal framework for his open-source activities. Clark is the author and creator of groff, as well as an XML editing mode for GNU Emacs. Work on XML Clark served as technical lead of the working group that developed XML—notably contributing the self-closing, empty element tag syntax, and the name XML.
