Royal Holloway, University Of London
Royal Holloway, University of London (RHUL), formally incorporated as Royal Holloway and Bedford New College, is a public research university and a constituent college of the federal University of London. It has six schools, 21 academic departments and approximately 10,500 undergraduate and postgraduate students from over 100 countries. The campus is located west of Egham, Surrey, from central London. The Egham campus was founded in 1879 by the Victorian entrepreneur and philanthropist Thomas Holloway. Royal Holloway College was officially opened in 1886 by Queen Victoria as an all-women college. It became a member of the University of London in 1900. In 1945, the college admitted male postgraduate students, and in 1965, around 100 of the first male undergraduates. Diamond Jubilee Of Elizabeth II
The year 2012 marked the Diamond Jubilee of Elizabeth II being the 60th anniversary of the accession of Queen Elizabeth II on 6 February 1952. The only diamond jubilee celebration for any of Elizabeth's predecessors was in 1897, for the 60th anniversary of the accession of Queen Victoria. Following the tradition of the Queen's Silver and Golden Jubilees, commemorative events were held throughout the Commonwealth of Nations. In comparison to the previous Golden Jubilee, events in the United Kingdom were significantly scaled back due to the economic policies of the governing Conservative Party deeming excessive cost to the taxpayer amidst widespread austerity as inappropriate. Julian Johnson (academic)
Julian Michael Johnson FBA (born 1 July 1963) is a music scholar, specialising in music history and the aesthetics of modern music. Since 2013, he has been Regius Professor of Music at Royal Holloway, University of London. After completing his undergraduate degree at Pembroke College, Cambridge, Johnson studied for his master's degree at the University of Sussex, which also awarded him his doctorate in 1994. He then lectured at Sussex until 2001, when he became a reader in the University of Oxford's Faculty of Music, and a fellow of St Anne's College, Oxford.
