In Australia, regional television is the local television services outside of the five main Australian cities (Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide and Perth). History 1960s The first regional television stations were launched five years after the rollout of television to metropolitan Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide and Perth. GLV-10 in Traralgon opened on 9 December 1961 and was followed 14 days later by GMV-6 in Shepparton and BCV-8 Bendigo. VTV is an Australian television station broadcasting in regional Victoria in Australia. The network was owned by ENT Ltd., before being purchased by the WIN Corporation. Network history ''VICTV Television Victoria'' began as a network of several stations serving northern and western Victoria: *GMV-6 Shepparton (launched on 23 December 1961) *BTV-6 Ballarat (launched on 27 April 1962) *STV-8 Mildura (launched on 27 November 1965). Television Victoria was owned and operated by Examiner-Northern TV Ltd, a company which already owned TVT-6 Hobart as well as GMV-6 and BTV-6. Wagga Wagga (; informally called Wagga) is a major regional city in the Riverina region of New South Wales, Australia. AMV (TV Station)
AMV is an Australian television station licensed to, and serving the regions surrounding Wagga Wagga and Albury-Wodonga in south western New South Wales and north eastern Victoria. The station was, for many years, merged with RVN-2 as ''the Riverina and North East Victoria Television Service''. History Origins AMV-4 commenced broadcasting on 7 September 1964. It broadcast programming from the three commercial stations in Sydney (ATN-7, TCN-9 and TEN-10) alongside local programming including coverage of the Albury Gold Cup, the Ovens and Murray Football League Grand Final and the 1988 Miss Australia pageant. Rockhampton is a city in the Rockhampton Region of Central Queensland, Australia. RTQ is an Australian television station broadcasting in regional Queensland in Australia. The network was owned by Star Television, before being purchased by the WIN Corporation on 5 October 1988. Network history WIN Television Queensland started out as Darling Downs Television Limited in 1959, which was launched as a television network in 1962 as Queensland's first regional TV station, DDQ-10, broadcasting to the Darling Downs area for the first time. SDQ-4 for the Southern Downs soon launched in 1964, and DDQ-5 was next to air later (it would later change frequencies to 5A) for Toowoomba viewers. Rockhampton station, RTQ-7, was launched by Rockhampton Television Ltd on 7 September 1963 to serve viewers in Rockhampton and its suburbs. CTC has an affiliation agreement to show content from Network 10.
