Regional Enterprise Tower
The Alcoa Building (a.k.a. the Regional Enterprise Tower) is a skyscraper in downtown Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. It was completed in 1953 and has 31 floors. It is the 15th tallest building in the city and is adjacent to Mellon Square. A unique radiant heating and cooling system is contained in the ceiling: since there are no pipes, radiators, or air conditioning units along the exterior walls, an additional of rentable space was gained. Also, the windows rotate 360 degrees so they can be washed from the inside. Originally the headquarters for the Aluminum Company of America (ALCOA), the unique aluminum walls of the building are 1/8 inch thick, which gives the building a very light weight and economical design. Silk is a natural protein fiber, some forms of which can be woven into textiles. The protein fiber of silk is composed mainly of fibroin and is produced by certain insect larvae to form cocoons. Wyndham Grand Pittsburgh Downtown (formerly the Hilton Pittsburgh) is a hotel in Downtown Pittsburgh, with a prominent position in the Golden Triangle area adjacent to Point State Park, the Fort Pitt Museum and the Cultural District. Three Gateway Center is a 344 ft (105m) skyscraper in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. It was completed in 1952 and has 24 floors. It is the 20th tallest building in Pittsburgh. 2012 hostage incident On the morning of September 21, 2012, 22-year-old military veteran Klein Michael Thaxton (who reportedly had a criminal record, and was believed to be carrying a gun and two duffel bags) stormed into a 16th-floor office of CW Breitsman Associates and took a male hostage while letting at least two females go. Police believed a male hostage was targeted because Thaxton was believed to have asked for a particular male. Three PNC Plaza is a tall skyscraper in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. It was announced on December 19, 2005 and completed in 2009 with 23 floors. It was the tallest building constructed in the city since Highmark Tower was completed in 1988, until The Tower at PNC Plaza was completed in 2015. It contains of office space, a 185-room Fairmont Hotel, and 28 condominium units.
