Region 11 (Johannesburg)
Region 11 was an administrative district in the city of Johannesburg, South Africa, from 2000 to 2006. On a map, Region 11 appeared to hang down from the borders of the two Soweto regions and Johannesburg South. It was about 40 km south of the Inner City. It was the most isolated, least integrated region of Johannesburg, with its east, west and southern borders also forming Johannesburg's boundaries in the area. Soweto () is a township of the City of Johannesburg Metropolitan Municipality in Gauteng, South Africa, bordering the city's mining belt in the south. Its name is an English syllabic abbreviation for ''South Western Townships''. Formerly a separate municipality, it is now incorporated in the City of Johannesburg Metropolitan Municipality, and one of the suburbs of Johannesburg. History George Harrison and George Walker are today credited as the men who discovered an outcrop of the Main Reef of gold on the farm Langlaagte in February 1886. Region 9 was an administrative district from 2000 to 2006 in the city of Johannesburg, South Africa, situated in the south-eastern corner of Johannesburg. To the north it met the Inner City along the Mining Belt and the M2. To the east and south, it formed the boundary of Johannesburg. N1 (South Africa)
The N1 is a national route in South Africa that runs from Cape Town through Bloemfontein, Johannesburg, Pretoria and Polokwane to Beit Bridge on the border with Zimbabwe. It forms the first section of the famed Cape to Cairo Road. Prior to 1970, the N1 designation was applied to the route from Beit Bridge to Colesberg and then along the current N9 to George. R553 (South Africa)
The R553 is a Regional Route in Gauteng, South Africa that connects Johannesburg with Vanderbijlpark via Lenasia and Sebokeng. It is known as the ''Golden Highway'' for much of its length. Route Its northern terminus is an interchange with the M1 in the southern suburbs of Johannesburg, Gauteng (southbound only). It heads south-west as the Golden Highway and forms an intersection with the M68 road (Columbine Avenue) in Southgate, west of Southgate Shopping Centre and east of Soweto, before meeting the western terminus of the M38 road. Continuing south-west, it forms an interchange with the N1 Highway (which is co-signed with the N12). The R553 is parallel to the N1 from here for most of its length. N12 (South Africa)
The N12 is a national route in South Africa which runs from George through Beaufort West, Kimberley, Klerksdorp and Johannesburg to eMalahleni. It is the only other National Route after the N1 Route that connects the Western Cape Province with the Gauteng Province. Prior to 1971, the N12 from Johannesburg to Three Sisters was known as the N13. Route Summary The road starts in George in the Western Cape and ends in eMalahleni in Mpumalanga. The road runs roughly from south to north, however, once it passes Kimberley in the Northern Cape, it gradually turns eastward. Only the section between Soweto and eMalahleni is a limited access dual motorway. The section between Klerksdorp and Potchefstroom is a dual carriage highway. The N12 remains the only National Route other than the N1 that links Beaufort West with Johannesburg.
