Reginald Bettington
Reginald Henshall Brindley Bettington (24 February 1900Bill Francis, ''Tom Lowry: Leader in a Thousand'', Trio, Wellington, 2010, p. 68. – 24 June 1969) was an Australian first-class cricketer and medical specialist. Early life and Oxford Reg Bettington was brought up on the family sheep station near Merriwa and attended The King's School, Parramatta from the age of 11, where he excelled at Latin and Greek and played for several years in the First XI cricket team. He went up to New College, Oxford University in 1919, and played cricket regularly for Oxford University for the next four seasons. At 19, he was six-foot three and an imposing figure. "A very tall, very dark young man strode through the New College gates. We watched in awe," one English undergraduate later wrote. Merriwa, New South Wales
Merriwa is a town located in the Upper Hunter Shire, in the far west of the Hunter region of New South Wales, Australia. The town is located on the Golden Highway, northwest of Sydney and about halfway between Newcastle and Dubbo. At the 2011 census, Merriwa had a population of 1,790 people. Surrey County Cricket Club (Surrey CCC) is a first-class club in county cricket, one of eighteen in the domestic cricket structure of England and Wales. Kent County Cricket Club is one of the eighteen first-class county clubs within the domestic cricket structure of England and Wales. It represents the historic county of Kent. A club representing the county was first founded in 1842 but Kent teams have played top-class cricket since the early 18th century, and the club has always held first-class status. Harlequins Cricket Club
The Harlequins Cricket Club is a wandering cricket club formed in 1852 by fellows of Merton College, Oxford. The club is made up exclusively of current and former Oxford University first-class cricketers; and, according to the rules of the club, only a maximum of twenty members can reside at the university at any one time. Once membership has been granted, it is for life. Notably, rather than play in the normal "whites" associated with cricket, until the end of the 19th century the team’s whole kit, and not just the cap, was coloured Oxford blue, maroon and buff. In the 1920s, the club played four first-class fixtures, all between 1924 and 1928. Their final such game, against the West Indians at Eastbourne in late August 1928, was notable for the 261 not out scored by John Knott in the second innings. Lord's Cricket Ground, commonly known as Lord's, is a cricket venue in St John's Wood, London. Cambridge University Cricket Club
Cambridge University Cricket Club, first recorded in 1817, is the representative cricket club for students of the University of Cambridge. Depending on the circumstances of each individual match, the club has always been recognised as holding first-class status. The university played List A cricket in 1972 and 1974 only. It has not played top-level Twenty20 cricket. With some 1,200 members, home matches are played at Fenner's.
