Regal Cinemas (UK)
Regal Cinemas was one of the first cinema chains in the United Kingdom. In 1928, Regal Cinemas became part of Associated British Cinemas but retained the name 'Regal Cinemas'. Many of the Regal Cinemas closed during the second half of the 20th century. The surviving Regal Cinemas in Cromer and Redruth are owned by Merlin Cinemas. The Regal in Henley is owned by Picturehouse Cinemas. ABC Cinemas (Associated British Cinemas) was a cinema chain in the United Kingdom. Originally a wholly owned subsidiary of Associated British Picture Corporation (ABPC), it operated between the 1930s and the 1980s. The brand name was reused in the 1990s until 2000. History Early years ABC Cinemas was established in 1927 by solicitor John Maxwell by merging three smaller Scottish cinema circuits. It became a wholly owned cinema subsidiary of British International Pictures when it was merged with the production arm of British National Pictures Studios, which had been formed by Maxwell in 1926. Merlin Cinemas are a British cinema chain with Head Office based in England. The company was formed in 1990 and predominantly operates in small coastal towns. In many cases, the cinemas were saved from closure and run on very small margins, but they are supported by some of the larger ones in the group that have been extensively refurbished and modernised to include luxury screens with waiter service, plus licensed bars, restaurants and live theatre. ''Storm in a Teacup'' is a 1937 British romantic comedy film directed by Ian Dalrymple and Victor Saville and starring Vivien Leigh, Rex Harrison (in his first starring role), Cecil Parker, and Sara Allgood.
