Refsnes Gods
Refsnes Gods is a hotel near the town of Moss, Norway, on the island of Jeløy. According to Frommer's travel guide, it is "the most elegant resort in the environs of Oslo". The building was originally constructed in 1767 as a pleasure pavilion. It contains a notable art collection. "Refsnes" stems from the Norwegian word "rif" (English: reef) due to a reef in the Oslofjord just outside the mansion. "Gods" means mansion in Norwegian. Since the new owners, Gunn and Widar Salbuvik, took over in 1998, a large number of unique pieces of art have found a new home at Refsnes Gods. Every guest room and all the common areas have works of a dedicated artist displayed. More than 400 pieces from 90 well-known artists are represented. Moss, Norway
is a coastal List of cities in Norway, town and a Municipalities of Norway, municipality in Viken (county), Viken Counties of Norway, county, Norway. The administrative centre of the municipality is the town of Moss. The city of Moss was established as a municipality on 1 January 1838 (see formannskapsdistrikt) and City in 1720. The rural municipality of Jeløy was merged with the city on 1 July 1943. The former municipality of Rygge was merged into it on January 1, 2020. Edvard Munch ( , ; 12 December 1863 – 23 January 1944) was a Norwegian painter. His best known work, '' The Scream'' (1893), has become one of Western art's most iconic images. His childhood was overshadowed by illness, bereavement and the dread of inheriting a mental condition that ran in the family. Frans Widerberg
Frans Widerberg (8 April 1934 – 7 April 2017) was a Norwegian painter and graphic artist. Widerberg was born in Oslo to Nicolai Magnus Widerberg and Ingrid Christine Blom. He made his exhibition debut in Oslo in 1963. Among his works is the woodcut ''Hieronymus'' from 1962 and ''De usynlige'' from 1979, both at the National Gallery of Norway. He was an exhibitor at the Bergen International Festival, and represented Norway at the Venice Biennale. Håkon Ingvald Bleken (born January 9, 1929 in Trondheim) is a Norwegian painter and graphic artist. Education and work as an artist Bleken started his art education at Trondheim art school, where he studied under Karsten Keiseraas and Oddvar Alstad from 1948 to 1949. Kjell Nupen (September 5, 1955 – March 12, 2014) was a Norwegian contemporary artist. He was a painter, sculptor and graphic artist. Early years Kjell Nupen had his professional breakthrough very early. At just 17 years old, he was admitted to Norwegian National Academy of Fine Arts. Since he was believed to be 18, his admission caused some difficulties but he finally could start after being given an exemption. He experienced success early on, and at the age of just 19, his art was bought by the National Museum of Art, Architecture and Design (''Riksgalleriet''),''Nasjonalgalleriet'' and ''Norsk Kulturråd''. Carl Nesjar (né Carlsen; 6 July 1920 – 23 May 2015) was a Norwegian painter, sculptor and graphic artist. He is best known for his collaborations with Pablo Picasso; serving for nearly twenty years as Picasso's chosen fabricator — the artist who turned Picasso's drawings and scale models into large public sculptures. One such work was Picasso's Regjeringskvartalet murals which are located in Oslo, the city where Nesjar lived for most of his life. He is also known for his series of "Ice Fountains” which can be found in cities around the world.
