Reed Magazine
''Reed Magazine'' is an annual literary journal published by San Jose State University. Two semesters of the Department of English and Comparative Literature's 133 class (comprising graduate and undergraduate students) solicit, edit, and promote the magazine for each year. San José State University (San Jose State or SJSU) is a public university in San Jose, California. Established in 1857, SJSU is the oldest public university on the West Coast and the founding campus of the California State University (CSU) system. Robert Hass
Robert L. Hass (born March 1, 1941) is an American poet. He served as Poet Laureate of the United States from 1995 to 1997. Albert James Young (May 31, 1939 – April 17, 2021) was an American poet, novelist, essayist, screenwriter, and professor. Vendela Vida
Vendela Vida (born September 6, 1971) is an American novelist, journalist, editor, screenplay writer, and educator. She is the author of multiple books, has worked as a writing teacher, and is a founder and editor of '' The Believer'' magazine. Early life Vida was born on the 6 September 1971 in San Francisco, California. Both of her parents were European immigrants, her mother was from Sweden and her father is Hungarian. She inherited the name Vendela from her maternal grandmother. Rodrigo Toscano
Rodrigo Toscano (born 1964 in San Diego) is an American poet and labor & environment activist. He has worked with the Labor Institute since 2000 as a director of national projects. He is also a lifelong amateur classical pianist. Life Originally from San Diego, California, Toscano lived in San Francisco from 1995 to 1999, and in Brooklyn, New York from 1999 to 2015. Arthur Sze
Arthur Sze (; ; born December 1, 1950) is an American poet, translator, and professor. Since 1972, he has published ten collections of poetry. Sze's ninth collection ''Compass Rose'' (2014) was a finalist for the 2015 Pulitzer Prize for Poetry. Sze's tenth collection ''Sight Lines'' (2019) won the 2019 National Book Award for Poetry. Sze was the first Poet Laureate of Santa Fe, New Mexico, where he resides and is a professor emeritus at the Institute of American Indian Arts. Michael Ernest Sweet
Michael Ernest Sweet (born 1979) is a Canadian photographer, writer, and educator. He is the author of two books of street photography, ''The Human Fragment'' and ''Michael Sweet's Coney Island.'' Teaching Sweet was born and raised on his family's horse farm in Martock, Nova Scotia. He taught in public schools in Montreal, Quebec, from 2003 to 2015 and founded Learning for a Cause, which earned him two of Canada's highest civilian honors for service to education, A Prime Minister's Awards for Teaching Excellence and the Queen Elizabeth Diamond Jubilee Medal. Emmy Pérez is a Chicanx poet and writer originally from Santa Ana, California, United States. She was a recipient of a National Endowment for the Arts Poetry Fellowship in 2017. Naomi Shihab Nye ( ar, نعومي شهاب ناي; born March 12, 1952) is an American poet, editor, songwriter, and novelist. Born to a Palestinian father and an American mother, she began composing her first poetry at the age of six. In total, she has published or contributed to over 30 volumes of poetry. Her works include poetry, young-adult fiction, picture books, and novels. Nayomi Munaweera is a Sri Lankan American writer and author of '' Island of a Thousand Mirrors'', which won Commonwealth Book Prize for the Asian Region in 2013, and '' What Lies Between Us'' (2016), which won the Sri Lankan National Book Award for best English novel and the Godage Award. Cathleen Miller is an internationally best-selling American nonfiction writer based in California. Her 2013 book, ''Champion of Choice'', is the biography of United Nations leader Nafis Sadik.
